You will get a lot of attention from low rent skanks wanting a bit of your "paper"

Pro or con though?

Just come back from New York and these are everywhere even in the city. Look outside most hotels, and you will normally see either a Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon outside with a chauffeur in the drivers seat. These are the rich mans choice of limo.

Saw a couple of these parked in the street next to a RR, and they make the RR look pratically tiny in comparison. In America they work but I dont know how I would deal with trying to park the damn thing in the UK

I would have one at the drop of a hat though...i think they look great in black with tints, and that engine noise....

I saw that (I'm assuming same car) on the M25 a month or so ago, had gumball rally stickers all over it and side exit exhausts. Sounded the absolute dogs...

A P38 Rangie with a couple of dags in the back parked in a caravan site has a better image than Escalades in the UK.

It really depends on you...

If you are a 'big' bloke, I mean over 5ft10, at least 12 stone, and a bit 'hard' looking buy one.

If you're 5ft5, 8 stone, and a bit nerdy looking, don't buy one, you will look daft.

...I also prefer the Suburbans and Tahoes (same car, different frock) as they're a bit more subtle styling wise - worth considering if you're troubled by the image of an Escy.

They're big (especially the EXT ones), brash and garish, but they're very comfortable, the vortec is a cracking engine too IMO. Thirsty, but not SRT10 thirsty, and they're bloody great for doing miles in. If it's well specced it's worth considering. Personally I've always preferred Suburbans / Tahoes, but the Escalades are decent.
I rented a Tahoe when I was in Colorado earlier this mornth and very nice it was too. 7 seats, full leather interior, Bose sound system, remote start, etc. It was pretty good on fuel given the fact it was a huge V8. During the rental period I averaged 22.5mpg (US) - this included a few trips into the Rockies and driving up Pikes Peak. I'd personally have a Tahoe over an Escalade as it is less in your face.

I saw a lot of them in New York recently.
In isolation they looked cheap, tacky and naff. Like a toy tuck you would see for sale in a grubby newsagent with loads of chrome and bits that will fall off in the wind.
When I saw one next to a Range Rover it just looked like an oversized joke.

The interior is even worse.
Personally I can't see the point in driving a Range Rover on our roads, these things are just a complete waste of time.

I like them, but not in the UK. Too much of an image problem, as has been discussed. I also like Hummer H1 & H2's and the Yukons and Suburbans.

If you don't care what others think and like it, go for it. I think perhaps we worry too much what others think, we aren't here that long so don't waste time trying to impress or please anyone other than yourself as you cant please all the people all of the time, you may think you look the nuts in an Integrale, E30 M3 or some other PH icon but a lot of the public will just see an old car.

It is your car if you buy one, it may not be to my taste but who cares about my opinion, plus if nobody bought stuff like this, the rest of the PH arbiters of all that is tasteful wouldn't have something to object to and thus their own exquisite choices would be less noticeable.

Sure its nice enough to be in, a bit too big relative to our infrastructure but you would manage, if you dont like it you can always sell it !

Have you considered the Mazda MX5 as a possible alternative biggrin

If you can carry it off go for it, but if you're under 55, less than 6'4 tall and/or under 18 stone and don't have a well maintained goateee beard you're gonna to look a bit odd.

But no matter what others think image wise it's still a bad car with no redeeming features that just doesn't work at all in the UK. You're doing the Integrale, E30 M3 a diservice by using them as a comparison, non car lovers may not appreciate them but since when does that matter?

Indeed, the only thing this has to offer on other cars is erm, 'image' - so if the image doesn't appeal to you why bother?

Talk you out of it nah you should buy one, the good points of this vehicle are:

  • It has a V8 (a decent sized one)
  • It is brash
  • It is big
  • It is different
  • It sticks out like a sore thumb even without the bling tat
  • It is probably very comfy (never driven one)
  • The fact that it isn't a RR, Audi, Merc, BM etc. etc.
  • It offends environmentalists
At the end of the day you buy a car that you want not what everybody else thinks you should have. Sure it might scream drug dealer or footballer to many but who cares really? Sod what people think. The interior is plasticky (nasty hard plastic at that) but to be fair who sits fondling their dash etc - fetishists and motoring journos that's about it.

It might handle badly - does that matter it is a hulking great SUV it isn't supposed to corner like an Elise. It will probably take up 2-4 car parking spaces depending on where you park it, but in a half empty car park that isn't a problem really (unless it is a pay for use car park then you'll need to pay for multiple spaces).

Buy one (or another similar vehicle) and enjoy it.

But it's not... 't would be living hell on UK roads. You need a stiff structure and supple suspension (including wheels/tyres), not the other way round.

So basically you confirm that

It's too big
It's ugly
It's not well built
It drinks fuel
It handles and rides badly
It has a low rent interior
It has a bad image

And you're for the OP purchasing the car...

I don't think anything more needs to be said really.

I don't think British roads are any worse than the ~ 1800 miles around California/Nevada we did in an Escalade, and it was supremely comfortable.

Sure its a big car but it doesn't pretend to be small,

Far from ugly imho:

Sure it’s a big car but it doesn't pretend to be small,

Far from ugly imho:

It only becomes an ugly car when people glue cheap tat to it to "bling it up"

Define badly built? to me a car is well built if nothing expensive goes wrong and it doesn't fall to bits, the odd rattle and squeak (if it has any) to me are not signs of bad build quality, I drive an American Ford, it has lots of rattles and squeaks, but it doesn't fall apart, or cost me lots of money in servicing and repairs - therefore it is well put together.

I doubt it will drink that much if any more than the comparable engined Euro offerings.

It might ride badly on ridiculous wheels but what car doesn't, handling hmmm it's a 5800lb SUV, to expect it to handle like anything other than the barge that it is is silly smile

Nothing wrong with a cheap simple interior:

Looks OK to me, well the steering wheel looks ugly but the rest is fine.

Image, who actually genuinely cares really?
