Subaru's (certainly the one's i have had/got) have been superb driving heaven ! with bombproof mechanicals and performance in abundance...

...This needs to have the same qualities in my book!...Otherwise it just not a Subaru !!
Both cars will be built by Subaru in the same production facilities so they'll both be the same in terms of build quality.

Interesting size comparison doing the rounds on other forums. Although I guess it's more relevant to the US market.

EDIT;

Nissan 370Z
167.1 in (4,240 mm)

Mazda RX-8 -
2004–08: 174.2 in (4,425 mm)
2009–: 176.0 in (4,470 mm)

I wonder what Prodrive upgrades you will be able to get for the BRZ and will we see a GT86/BRZ in WRC ?

Still for £29K there's the Ginetta G40R, which seems to be MX5 size too.

Have any of these been delivered to customers?

The Subaru looks exactly the same as the Toyota apart from a subtly different front end.

Hang on, so not only do they have a Subaru engine, but they are also built by Subaru?
So it's a Subaru then, right?

Prodrive aren't contracted to work for Subaru any more. Not sure who they used specifically for for the 320 pack but I read it was an ex Prodrive chap. It is only a remap, mind.

My prediction: In 7-8 years every chav in the land will have one, and in 15 years due to aforementioned chavs wrecking them all they'll appreciate in value. smile

Which wheels does the Megane use to put it's power down.
But that's my point. If it is sweeter than that then there may be a place for it. If it just turns out to be a fun drifter well, that's just one trick...

It should be better than the Megane, it starts off from a more promising position than the hotted up family runabout in terms of driven wheels, longitudinal weight distribution, height of centre of gravity and total weight.

Who will buy the GT86 / BRZ?
Only those who consider a 370Z?
370Z sales year to date, just over 400.
Scirocco over 7000, RCZ 3000.
10000 people chose not to buy 370Z when looking for a sports car.
If those people went for a Scirocco or an RCZ then they were never looking for a drivers car in the first place.

A Megane may well be quicker on a track or on the 'Ring but if it doesnt engage you in the way a light, RWD car that needs DRIVING to get the most from it does then what is the point? Not everything has to be about big power and willy waving. An Elise or an MX5 is hardly a quick car in a straight line but the way the car reacts to your inputs makes them an absolute joy even at sedate speeds, the lack of the massive weight and momentum of other cars is like going from a hot stuffy room to outdoors on a cool breezy day.

The Toyubaru is going to be far cheaper to enjoy to. It has sensible sized tyres, doesnt need monster brakes, will not chew up tyres, has an uncomplex driveline. Reduce weight and power and suddenly things get much simpler.

For years people have been on Pistonheads moaning about how big, heavy and corrupted modern cars are and asking why the big manufacturers can not produce more simple, light, RWD, drivers cars...well here we are! Be happy that one of the greatest sports car manufacturers is back in the game. Heck they are even recognising that people are going to want to use it on track or race it.

Some more photos in traditional Subaru blue...

Starting to like this now...

Also, GT 86 in a much more subtle colour looks much better:

It does look so much better in blue. Is that JDM only WR Blue? Still, the STi concept is still by far the best looking, especially with normal rear lights rather than Lexus jobs. A close second would be a metallic grey GT 86 with TRD styling and magnesium wheels. Sorry...getting carried away now. smile

Useless rear seats if you're not a baby...as expected.

Now if only Subaru weren't so tight fisted with their servicing/insurance/finance deals. Toyota will find many more buyers.

I do quite like how this thing looks - although I agree the orangey brown photos really aren't flattering at all.

Its still disappointing though compared to the original concept. If it looked like that it could have 60bhp and I'd have bought one!

Both cars seem like bargain drivers cars for the money. I'll definitely be putting my name down for one.

Going to start pestering Toyota and Subaru and play them off against each other to get the best deal smile

I though it wasn't too bad!
A bit monstrous, but all these Subarus and Toyotas also...
What was absolutely dull and even ugly was the dashboard of the old Z4;
it was less interesting than any Corean car!
TBF I absolutely love the old Z4 Coupe, especially the Z4M, one of my favourite looking BMWs... but this looks like a bad chinese copy of it from the rear 1/4 to me.
You are right.
As I wrote that I didn't like the Z4 dashboard it made you think I found the car ugly. Certainly not! I have the latest Z4, and although I really enjoy it, it doesn't have that more sporting rear of the Z4M Coupé. Sort of Cheetah proportions!
Had I had the money at the time, I would be in a Z4M (...and certainly never in a Jap or Corean car!)

Hardly a relevant comparison is it.
