I have just started going to a specialist in MINI's as also the parts and labour cost from a main dealer for a 10 year mini are ridiculous.
The mini was also MOTd previous to this one by the same dealer in for at least the last 2 years…hmmmm
the price of the reflectors is peanuts but this is not very good really as there are quite a few out there with these kind of lamps.
So expect MINI 's with white lamps appearing with red blotches on their rumps very soon.
thanks for all the info guys and gals

Again, for reference, these are the genuine reflectors. They require the bumper to be cut as they recess into the bumper.

That's the other reason most aren't fitted, it's difficult to reverse the mod once you've put two holes in your bumper.

Yep this is being done, but why did the BMW dealer sell the car without it being road legal??
Because they traded the car in, valeted it, put it on their forecourt and sold it to you...

You can't blame a dealer for not spotting something so minor.
what and to carry on passing it on its MOT years after???
I think the car never had them as I remember the accessory brochure didn't have them on either (2001-2002)
No real beef to grind other than it is amazing that the mot passed for 7 years and suddenly it doesn't and now have to stick some reflectors on the rear

Seriously, OP?

The law is the law. MOT regs are MOT regs. Your car does not comply. Previous MOT passes prove nothing. All previous MOTs with those lights fitted without reflectors in the bumper proves merely that the MOT tester did not know his arse from his elbow.

There is no "blame" anywhere. Stop looking for it, accept that you need to spend a couple of quid on some reflectors, and stop whining.

Honestly.

They look st anyway.

If i sell you a car with bald tyres, no brakes and a bonnet mounted chainsaw

Who is at fault if you drive through a school bus stop.

Can't BMW just turn around and say you must have taken them off.

I am not going after BMW. Can I just say that right away.
I am just raising it as an item that might catch someone out whether you are a dealer or punter or even an MOT inspector.
I was amazed that it took 7 years to get a fail on this when the main authorised dealer weren't bothered

If you're worried about the aesthetics of the rump of your Mini, why don't you just stick the red reflectors on with some low tack adhesive for the pusposes of the MOT re test. The reflectors might "fall off" again shortly after driving away from the testing station.

Well with all this cold wet and windy weather we are having they might just do that smile
any way looking to put the round ones here and eventually black out the silver foil pieces.
I guess this is now getting into MINI thread area

I'm literally just being a prick for the sake of it now.

I actually quite like the way the OP's plan looks for the red reflectors in the black grills... don't tell them though!

Put a couple of discrete reflectors on either side on your number plate...?
