Sorry if this thread is being repeated but really, whats the point of 'turning lights'???

I mean the ones when you indicate one front foglight comes on. Seriously, I can't see this being of any use whatsoever! It makes people who are not foglight wkers look like half a foglight wker!

Can anyone explain if there is any benefit to having these? To Me, they look utterly ridiculous!! I have been driving for 21 years without them and have never crashed into the kerb whilst turning a corner because I couldnt see it.

fking ridiculous idea!! Whatever next??

Agree entirely. I keep thinking one of their w*nker lights is out. I had an 80s Corvette which had white lights in the side indicator that came on when indicating. So effective were they that I had no idea they came on until I was checking the indicators one day and thought "What the hey...?"

They have these on the 2010+ Range Rover Sport's, IMHO I think they work very well when turning at T juctions where we live (dark country lanes).

My girlfriend has just got a clk and it seems to turn the foglight on when turning, i'm not sure if theres something wrong or if its meant to do that. Looks bloody ridiculous either way.

It can flash on as you turn a shallow curve before a junction where a waiting car sees it
What was the benefit again?

The turny lights though are very good. Even ones that only turn by a small number of degrees make a massive difference on dark narrow roads.

Just saying.... smile

Yup, they work pretty well IMO, they might look odd from the outside but they're not there for other people to gawp at.

My car has them, they don't annoy me when I'm driving but agree they look a little silly from the outside. The stupidest part though is when your reversing they both light up. One day I'll get them disabled in VAG COM...

Surely it can't be too hard to unplug them?

My 1990 lucida has them they are nowt new at all and they used to be called curb illumination lights, so when turning they light up the curved curb to let you see how tight to turn, work fine out of town on non illumnated roads.

Indeed... The bi-weekly rant about something that isn't really something that matters. I don't know why some people let such trivial things get that much on their nerves.

I hate them.

My '08 Vectra had the best turning lights, incorporated with the AFL. It didnt turn on the wker lights, instead it had a low brightness sidelight, which was pointed at an angle actually into the kerb. You noticed it as you were driving but someone else on the road wouldnt notice it. Because it wasn't a wker light, it was pointing where it should be (the kerb) rather than in another drivers eyeball.

Easily the best headlights i've ever had in a car. On a vectra... biggrin

I know, imagine if something bad actually happened, it would be all over.

What would that achieve confused

Then you'd have an error on the dash and no fog lights at all

Its just software that makes them come in going round corners...

turning lights can be great ... can remember film of them on later model citroen ds and they helped on hairpin alpine bends .... have twisty roads here too and could do with them sometimes .... most available as an option seem to be turning foglights now

Me, I only did it as a dare, I didn't actually think they'd put it into manufacture, sorry....

I had these on my old E Class, can't say I saw any benefit whatsoever, IMO they are a distraction to other road users.
