Auto Parking, does it actually work now?
Discussion
There are more and more cars advertised on TV/Mags with Auto Parking, but every time I've seen it tested on Top Gear etc it looked terrible! So has there been a jump in how well it works? I don't think I've ever seen anyone doing it on the street but I suppose you wouldn't really notice.
A few on here must have it?

Manufacturers must be incredibly confident in it - or very very brave to stick their necks on the line.
Imagine if the sensors fail and squash a toddler behind the vehicle or something.
Can you imagine the lawsuits and the (in the US at any rate) stratospheric size of the claims?
I really cannot believe anyone dares market this.

I assumed it just steered and left the cotrol of movement to the driver. As you the possible safety implications of a completely self-driving (even parking) car are terrifying.

Its the driver's responsibility to ensure that it is clear and safe to park. Plus the driver works the throttle and brake.Imagine if the sensors fail and squash a toddler behind the vehicle or something.

You could have made a similar argument about cruise control, but I don't recall any substantiated stories about it causing accidents even after a malfunction (I researched this after I had a cruise control malfunction)
