Best approach is to fit a relay to switch the new lights and feed them directly from the battery with some decent cable.
P=IV so divide the total wattage of the lights by 12 to get the current. Then I would go for cable that can take that current x 1.5 or so.
e.g. 2x55w spots = 110w divide by 12 is approx 10 amps. So 12-15 amp cable will be fine.
