RE: Time for tea? Datsun does Movember
Discussion
Just remeber those that can grow a tash do, those that can't are all too vocal about how naff tach's are. I have offered a "cutting" to quite a number of people who are doing their best for movember, it's a good cause so get with it next year. If anyone actually cares, I've had mine for nearly 40 years. (it wasn't that good originally if I'm honest)
Rubbish! Such insolence!!!
This was a GREAT car. Well, maybe not great, but I had one of these back in the mid '80's and adored it (and I never understood why back then almost everyone generally prefered the XR3i - which was about 50% more to buy!). And it was superior to things like Alfa Spiders, Golf Cabriolets etc (speaking as someone who owned all)
Previous owner to me spoilt it a bit though - he painted over the gold so it was all black!
I liked the pseudo Smokey & The Bandit Look
Ok, so it wasn't a sports car - but then neither was a Ford Escort with a rubber plank stuck on the boot.

reminds me of very old TV ad for the Ford Sierra, introducing the range of new cars "we proudly introduce the Sierra GL, which has added luxury from the base model with a rear wash wipe and full wrap around ABS plastic bumpers" jeez.. how we have moved on!
We haven't moved on at all. Just replace "rear wash wipe" with "boot spoiler" and "full wrap around ABS platic bumpers" with "sporty fog lights" or "daylight driving lights."... GiIt's not quite beating this one for me. No tache, just lots of period cheese and some nice music:

GiI think the time between early '70's and mid '90's almost ALL cars were pretty crap - what passed for a sports car was a hatchback with alloys and about 15bhp extra. Companies like TVR, Ferrari, Triumph etc all forgot how to make cars (308 with 240bhp, TVR's going from Yank 5ltr's to 2 litre engines). 150BHP TR6's became 100BHP TR7's, Mini Cooper's became Mini GT's.
Then things got better, some moustached guy had the idea to fit the biggest cheapest engines possible, Ferrari discovered turbos, and Ford made the Mother of All Hot Hatches and went racing.

My dad actually had one of these - not a gold edition, a regular job (although it did have a two-tone paint job - all black with a silver bonnet). I remember being in the Datsun showroom when he collected it brand new.
As a 7 year old in 1982 (who was an avid Knight rider fan) having your dad drive a black 'sports car' with T tops was just too exciting for words.
This was replaced 2 years later by the newer (but still hugely cack, by modern standards) Z31 shape 300zx.
Being a light metallic blue it was a step backwards in terms of colour, but it gained 'pop-up headlamps' which, by my 9 year old's quality standards made it one of the best cars available!
Suffice to say, my standards are a little higher now.
