Anyone have any advice on running costs of these and buying advice also. 60k on the clock.

Mildly considering a wee purchase.

Hardly any less ruinous than a 231, no point buying the less powerful, less well equipped car, IMO.

Fuel costs steep (20mpg), oil costs totally irrelevant, insurance reasonable, servicing cheap. Tyres £140-ish each.

20 mpg?
around town, notorways, or b-road blasts?
To be fair, it's a sight better than the Mercedes achieved ever and even the '5 is pretty thirsty (IMO) for a 1.6l lightweight...

Mine averaged 20mpg overall, and was mostly used on rural A and B roads and driven fairly hard. Driving them gently doesn't improve matters much, so it would be rude not to give it some welly. A long motorway run would get 26-28mpg driven sensibly. I think I saw 30mpg once, on a partial fill. People using them for short urban journeys get as low as low teens.

I averaged 14 mpg but this was mostly town driving. If you do this sort of driving (i.e short journeys) a full tank can be gone in less than 200 miles. Not the sort of car to get if you're at all concerned about economy. Also don't get the 192 unless you have a specific reason as the 231 is better equipped, faster and only marginally more expensive to run.

Mx5s are awful on fuel for what they give in my opinion.

With the rx-8 it really depends on how you drive, there isn't much in it between the 192 and 231.

If you like to redline a car expect to be visiting the petrol station very often smile

We found in my friends one that normal mixed driving would average around 20mpg. Track day averaged 18.

So drive it like you stole it all the time, the engine loves being revved, hates being trundled about in.

Handle really really well too and are a nice place to sit.

I think I got about 9mpg on track!
