RE: Lotus unveils Evora GTE 'By Swizz Beatz'
Discussion
I'm sorry but what a load of tosh. Lotus have never been about bling and rap videos and as far as I am concerned they never will be so this is completely the wrong direction for them marketing wise. Why not take a leaf out of Porsches book and actually market your car on engineering, driving capability and a smidgeon of nostalgia, 3 areas which Lotus actually excel at. It's worked for Porsche for decades and has made them one of the most succeful car makers today so why not copy a proven success strategy instead of trying to take Lotus in a completely random direction?
I got shouted down in another Lotus thread several months ago for daring to suggest that IMO there was a slight chance that the new Lotus management team might not exactly know what they are doing and they come out with this blinder of an idea!
Where are all the Lotus fanboys now? Oh yes busily trying to think up new ways to explain away yet another f**k up by the new management. We are sorry Colin Chapman for what they have done to Lotus.

Have to agree, the same ass holes moan how the other car manufactures do well compared to the British that virtually died out. But many of the reasons is due to change and market trends which the British imo, lacked very badly in.
I guess you guys would rather the Posh Spice edition then.

LOL at some of the comments on here.
Colin Chapman? FFS he died 30 years ago and he wasn't adverse to making a few quid however he could.
Obviously the car looks awesome but its obviously being used to target, as said on here, young, affluent people who have high incomes and who may be buying 911s etc. Whether you like this kind of event or not, these people know what they're doing.

Is that you or the car talking? But who wouldn't want a Knightrider version?
<staggers out of nightclub at 4:00am> "Kitt, kitt old pal, I'm too pished to drive, be a good old chap and drive me home please, and make sure you ram-raid abrakebabra on the way past I'm feckin' starvin'."
Trouble is, that the type of Led Zeplin loving person is not likely to buy a new Lotus, they may buy second hand, the swizz beatz, jay-z listening music person would.

I guess the NYC posse massive have to do it their way, and Lotus see this as moving with the times, you can't stay in the past forever if you want to stay in business in the future.
I hated the vid, NMCOTea but then again, I'm a 45yr old Led Zep loving British chap.

'Zeppelin'I bought a new Lotus, and I would if funds allowed, get me an Evora GTE as a stable mate.
So there, na, na, na, na, na, where does that leave your comment, a? a? a?
Outside of a website like this, no-one in Britain will be aware of this tieup so it's not about to hurt sales here.
Lotus have no virtually no impact in the US at all at the moment. If this helps raise their profile over there I don't see it as a bad thing.
People need to open their minds to the wider world. There are probably guys in the US wondering why Swizz Beatz is bothering to work with a small car maker like Lotus - everything's relative.
I've got to say, this relationship does nothing at all to make me want an Evora, and I'm not fan of chrome coated cars, but then I accept I'm not the target market.

Personally, i like this version, its certainly different. Not a fan of his music, not even heard one of his tracks. But food for thought, between SB and his wife, a certain Alicia Keys, they have something like the best part of 6m Twitter followers, i gather he's been Tweeting the f**k out of everything Lotus the past couple of months, slowly raising their profile within the markets that count.
I can see what they're trying to achieve with the marketing aspect, i'm just surprised by the amount cynical people there are out there.
I read through the list of people working there the other day, thinking i was missing a trick, there's some talented people there to drive this plan forward, and they aren't some bloke who worked at Ford thats lied on his CV, these are people that are very successful in their field of expertise. Do people really want Lotus to fail then?

I'm sure this'll make no sense to most of the UK beard tugging Lotus stalwarts.
Swizz Beats is Mr. Alicia Keys, and as a producer has worked with Jay-Z, Beyonce and many others. He's a bit of a hot thing with US media, and has tie-ins with Reebok, as a painter (donating profits to Cystic Fibrosis and Cancer charities), won a Grammy and been nominated for a couple more.
Most significant is that the GTE is getting big launches in China and the US. The US market in particular seems pretty ambivalent to the standard Lotus range - nimble cars aren't important, and big block US cars can usually out-drag them at a fraction of the cost.
So, I can understand this launch. It's targeting America with a car that has serious performance and with an aspirational tie-in. It'll make no sense whatsoever to the UK. Whether the US market will notice is another thing entirely.
That all may be so, but there's no fking way that the yanks are going to buy that car.Swizz Beats is Mr. Alicia Keys, and as a producer has worked with Jay-Z, Beyonce and many others. I'd say that Lotus is the most well defended brand on PH. I don't think it matters what Lotus do, there are some here who will support them, regardless of how ridiculous Lotus appear to the rest of the world.I guess we'll have to wait a year or two until we can really judge.

Goodbye Lotus.
And on a lighter note... I actually love it, even with the stupid rear spoiler. It's another reason to wish I was rich, although I'd never ever mention down the pub "yaah I've got a swiss beats don't ya know..."Lotus marketing strategy though... those guys are working their way through harder and harder drugs aren't they?
