Us beardy, dinosaur fans of Lotus cars from decades ago are sorry Colin Chapman for what they have done to Lotus but we're too busy in our sheds checking the size of thrust bearings and watching reruns of Morecombe and Wise to do anything but moan.
EFAIn my defence, I'm not actually a Lotus beardy and agree some change needs to happen. I just don't think "Swizz Beatz" is the right direction for Lotus.

Outside of a website like this, no-one in Britain will be aware of this tieup so it's not about to hurt sales here.
Lotus have no virtually no impact in the US at all at the moment. If this helps raise their profile over there I don't see it as a bad thing.
People need to open their minds to the wider world. There are probably guys in the US wondering why Swizz Beatz is bothering to work with a small car maker like Lotus - everything's relative.
I've got to say, this relationship does nothing at all to make me want an Evora, and I'm not fan of chrome coated cars, but then I accept I'm not the target market.
I agree with most of this actually. Lotus is also doing things like product placement in Desperate Housewives etc, which apparently went down rather well. This relationship doesn't make me want one either, because I already really, really want one and I am not remotely affected by product placement/marketing ploys/peer pressure etc etc anyway. I just know it is a fantastic car and pretty much top of my want list.Lotus have no virtually no impact in the US at all at the moment. meaningless statistics in relation to whether the marketing is working.Latest figures from SMMT:

1) we are in a different place economically this year to last year (albeit last year wasn't great, things are biting harder now)
2) those figures might be based on reg years which is typically august to august, so you might be comparing 12 months with 4 months (and therefore it represents an increase)
3) the new Lotuses that the hype is being generated for haven't even been released yet
4) are these the UK only sales figures? I hope so!

Now, can someone photoshop me up something that reflects an association with something I can understand?
Evora Eruption - Eddie Van Halen limited edition
Don't be stupid! People aren't going to buy a car that's been endorsed by someone with talent nowadays. Come on, get with the times. Now, can someone photoshop me up something that reflects an association with something I can understand?

Seriously, I'm in total agreement with all the WTF statements on here.
Lotus cars are never going to appeal to the knuckle dragging, single digit IQ point flexing, degenerate-got-lucky crowd. This sort of individual is all show, no pro. So unless you can bolt 92" chrome spinner alloys to it in some form of grossly impractical hellaflush arrangement, forget it.
Nice car though.

I'm sure this'll make no sense to most of the UK beard tugging Lotus stalwarts.
Swizz Beats is Mr. Alicia Keys, and as a producer has worked with Jay-Z, Beyonce and many others. He's a bit of a hot thing with US media, and has tie-ins with Reebok, as a painter (donating profits to Cystic Fibrosis and Cancer charities), won a Grammy and been nominated for a couple more.
Most significant is that the GTE is getting big launches in China and the US. The US market in particular seems pretty ambivalent to the standard Lotus range - nimble cars aren't important, and big block US cars can usually out-drag them at a fraction of the cost.
So, I can understand this launch. It's targeting America with a car that has serious performance and with an aspirational tie-in. It'll make no sense whatsoever to the UK. Whether the US market will notice is another thing entirely.
After the rubbish trend for matt black cars, I quite like the Chrome red. The GTE really works for me too. To be honest I don't know what the rest of you lot want from Lotus (apart from apparently hoping they'll curl up and die). One particular marketing campaign doesn't define the company, and anything they can do to get out of their core market (who are full of opinions but, it seems shallow in the pocket department) is a good thing.

UK sales, that will be the Emmerdale effect, as that is about the sum total of Lotus marketing activity, stick an Evora in Emmerdale and hope for the best, as I'm sure the target market love a early evening soap...........................
