Do you have a "fleet"? Can you justify it?

Sadly i can't, it's my company car. The free fuel, ins, tax & maintenance is what makes it so hard to justify running another car that actually costs money. Quite alot at that.
Stephen.
Surely if you have space, this is crying out for kit car replacement/mx5 Stephen.
Something fun on 4 wheels. What that fun is, may depend on garage space?

I fancy chopping in the V-strom, taking the cash and buying a cheap and cheerless hatchback to take on the commute.
Depending on how congested your commute is, you could regret this! I have an old nail of a GPZ500 for the commute, and I took it off the road when I was cutting outgoings a few years back. Suffice to say, after a week of sitting in stationary motorway traffic in the car I knew I'd made the wrong decision and it was road legal again within a week or two 6 cars between 2 of us -
mine - 2010 freelander (works car that does 30k p.a.),2010 abarth500 ss,1999 mini cooper (5k miles form new)
hers - 2010 toyota urban cruiser diesel,2010 fiat 500 c in pink(!),fiat qubo trekking(but that's really mine for surfing trips.
I've got no problem justifying any of them but have started to have a problem with the cost of a new boxster spyder or cayman r that i've been looking at and the inevitable losses when I want to change in a few years.

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T - rebuilding engine taking out to 7.7 litres, 6 speed gearbox fitted
1982 E21 BMW 323i - first car ever bought, currently undergoing rennovation with Getrag 226 6 spped gearbox, Z3M rear torsen diff and suspension, 2.7 litre engine etc
1995 Porsche 993 Turbo- low mileage original
2000 Jaguar XJR - a car I was involved in performance development of
2003 Dodge Ram 5.7 Hemi quad cab- truck for winter, going off road, hauling and camping
1993 W124 Mercedes 400E- car for the wife
1993 Buick Roadmaster with small block 5.7- originally bought for the wife-car soon to go
1998 Chevy Lumina- wifes old car, rusty with leaky petrol tank- soon to be scrapped
See- I've justified all of them
My wife is worse than me and wants to buy a BMW E24 6 series, I told her I won't settle for a 12 valve but only the M 24 valve motor and they're out of our price range
She also loves the Jaguar XJC coupe from the 70s
and the Rover P6 (for some reason)
That is a wonderful line up, mainly the challenger caught my eye, I've always wanted an e body cuda or an early challenger (before the restyle in '73) and a '70 would be perfect.1982 E21 BMW 323i - first car ever bought, currently undergoing rennovation with Getrag 226 6 spped gearbox, Z3M rear torsen diff and suspension, 2.7 litre engine etc

Friends always jokingly ask how our fleet is. We got 4 cars, which is only 2 eacg, which doesn't seem excessive.
I got the Mk4 SRI, it's modern enough to have decent spec (A/C, cruise etc), is very quiet and smooth and I don't have to worry about it rotting away (11 years old and not a spec).
My weekend toy, which stays garaged is the GTE 16V. It's more than reliable enough to use every day, but the afore mentioned rot and not wanting to leave it in car parks stops it being a daily. Plus with it turn of speed it encourages less than safe driving.
The wife has my old Mk2 that's so old with so many miles it's worth absolutely nothing, except it's 200% reliable and has not let me down in 12 years and 100k miles and so stupidly easy to work on it's almost funny. She also has a Nova, as it was a cheap clean buy and she's always like Novas. She's sensible enough to swap between them on an alternate week basis. They're 1.3 and 1.2 respectively, so cheaper tax and even modded they're cheap to insure.
I'm fine with the 4, we have space for 5 which frequently happens. I get given a car, or fancy a project but I feel pressured not to keep it at 5 for too long.
So how I'm going to get a Saab C900T16, a Hillman Avenger or a BMW 328 I don't know....
We justify it by never having to have any stress. I blew the clutch to bits on the daily by being stupid, but thought it was the gearbox, so SORNed it for a month. It wasn't a problem, as I had other options. When the Mk2 goes away for more welding, she just sticks to the Nova.
I think that counts for a lot.
