Think you may have misunderstood the meaning of the word fleet...

To all you guys with a fleet, dull question but do you insure them on a single policy so anyone can drive, or each vehicle seperately.

I have a trade policy.

It means I can write my insurance costs off against any profit I make.

Basically other than petrol my cars are zero cost.

I have an admiral multicar for the dailys which saves me quite a bit but classic policies on the others are pretty cheap with agreed value.

I might have to hand my bloke card in at this point but... I don't own a car, let alone a fleet. I'm lucky enough to be able to walk into work after years of commuting.

However I do have four motorbikes - do they count?

A British single for lighthearted B road chugging and winter fun. (1965 Enfield Bullet)

A German twin (with a tow hitch) for camping, touring and as a general runabout. And for pissing people off with the trailer - for some reason most people think it's illegal. (1980 BMW 100S)

An Italian triple, because I'm a glutton for punishment. Oh yes, and when it works, it works really well. (1977 Laverda bitsa/special).

A Japanese four (a Honda 400/4 actually) cos I had one as my first bike, and I love them.

I've got my van for work, general hack duties and my TVR for fun times. I have had a third car in the past but just find it a waste of money TBH, rather just use the TVR!

I have some kind of aversion to selling my cars, so just kept collecting them, and ended up with 7 when I met my partner, which was soon whittled down to 3.

Still have 2 but no longer tax/mot/insure my track car as it was a pretty considerable cost with little benefits.

Looking at a nice CLK or C-coupe at the minute though smile

I've contemplated selling my M3 and 968CS a thousand times and in the time I've had them I've seen the value increase so what's the point in not having them?
If his 3 cars are perfect then they're only going to go up in value - or atleast won't lose anything on them.
you're assuming it's a "he"!!
Seriously though, it's not my money so it's not for me to pass judgement, only if it were me, I'd have different cars to increase my "experience" (as you have) rather than 3 exactly the same (apart from the colour)
each to their own though eh?!

Currently living in London so barely need one car most of the time let alone two. E500 for long jaunts, Clio for short trips. Although I fo twice the mileage on my mountain bike than my wife does in her Clio (2000 vs 1000 pa)

Considering moving to Bucks at which point I'd keep the Merc, chop the Clio in for something a bit more substantial (Golf? 3 Series?) and have a third car as some sort of toy (S4 V8 Cab? 964? Caterham?).

Most people will try justify owning multiple vehicles with any reason that suits them, reasons that don`t seem to make sense to most but still are justified in the eyes of the car owner.

We have an S-max for when we all go out,
Myself, the o/h,our two young children and all the stuff that that entails.

I have an A4 estate for work when my bike won`t do, i.e. carrying anything more than menu`s.
The o/h has a Focus for general use because the S-max is too big to use regularly in the lanes round our way.

My currently half restored Land Rover because I live in the country and need a 4x4 for winter, fields etc.

My Capri for a bit of fun and a pristine low miles ST170 and an out of the box low.low mileage mk1 Avensis stored for keeps.
In my eyes that lot are totally justifiable but most will disagree.

I have 3 cars, 5 bikes, and SWMBO has a car as well. I'm considering adding another car, just because it's there and just because I can. But I might not. Who knows? Who cares!

I can always justify it, and never regret anything I spend on cars..as Georgie Best said..'I spent a lot of money on girls, booze and fast cars, the rest I just squandered'..

I usually have 3 cars on the go to suit differing moods/needs. I always have a Convertible on the go (more cylinders the better for the proper top down experience), and usually a Landrover/4WD of some description as well as a fast Coupe/Hatchback..

My current fleet is pretty perfect for me. The Corrado VR6 has much character and is the car I pick for a sunday morning blast any time when the sun isn't out or if it is raining. The E36 323 Vert on any occasion when I can get the roof down (at any time of year). The Range Rover any time the weather is icey/snowy or when I have more than one adult passenger or simply when I just cannot be bothered to drive and change gear!..just wafting about in my own little world..

my ultimate real world version of the above would be..

-Range Rover V8
-Porsche 993 C4S Coupe
-BMW E93 M3 Convertible (4 seats and V8 RWD)

My grandparents used to have this lot:

MGA
MGB
MGB GT
MG Midget
MG 1300
MG Magnette
VW Camper (bay window)

and a daily driver each...

I don't think they ever justified them. Stopping buying more was more of the issue biggrin

Good choices; my ultimate real world three car garage would be;

- FFRR (by that I mean the supercharged petrol V8) or E63 Estate
- 993 or 997 C4S Coupe
- 335i or S4 Cab

Job's a good 'un.

Sensible car, silly car, and a bike seems about right to me and perfectly justifiable! Perhaps add a silly bike to really hit the sweet spot biggrin

Need to build my fleet up again.

I am, a woman would Shirley only have handbags and dresses in the same design but different colour - I know mine does.
