The outgoing GT3 had almost 500bhp (not bad for a 6 cylinder with no forced induction), not 450bhp. A GT3 without a Mezger engine will struggle to be a GT3; and a GT3 with electric steering - well, let's hope it's not the start of more badge engineering by VW; but the naff over-badging on the back of the regular cars doesn't augur well.

Bold claim since they havent even finished developing it.

Tbh, as much as I was against kettles the donkey in mine is the best I've tried incl the 3.8 a/c lump.

I'll reserve judgement until I've driven one.

It'll be interesting to see how well the GT3 is received now it is using a 'regular' 911 engine.

On a sidenote, how fabulous does this look-

Presumably a regular 911 body hiding the GT3's running gear.
I thought the same, very sexy profile there.

997 line up was - c2, c4, c2s, c4s, c2 cab, c4 cab, c2s cab, c4s cab, targa, gts, gt3, gt3 rs, gt3 rs 4.0, sport classic, gt2, gt2 rs, turbo, turbo cab, turbo s, turbo s cab, cup, super cup, etc, etc plus the black series
Again? You could have easily said:

3 body styles - coupe, targa, cab.
2 or 4 wheel drive
2 engine specs
Plus turbo, and special editions.

Looks quite rational then, no? If you list all the current iterations of the BM 3 series, you've got 112 destinct models. Plus race cars. Makes 22 seem few, eh?

Really? Cant recall seeing a narrow body turbo, or a wide body c2..
Anyways, I was only really pointing out that however fasionable it is to complain about new 911 models coming out, there are only 22 in total, yet everyone really moans about it. I just can't see why everyone comes with the same moan every time PH does a news article on them?

I thought people liked choice?

Who has thought I really want a 911, but then seen the choice on offer and gone oh no that's too many I'll get something else instead?

I really don't get the antipathy towards the model line up.

clarkson took the piss out of it once. They all repeat it without really thinking why.
