Theses were great machines. Met a horse on a B Road bend once, resulting lift-off/braking moment forever lodged in my memory... they ARE twitchy to say the least! There was grass stuck between tire and rear wheel from the brief excursion on the verge.

Here is my daily, have owned it for over a year now and love it. It's a 1.9 non ps model, spent a few ££ on it over the year - mainly replacing things, I think I need a new fuel relay or fuel pump next.

Cracking car.

Good timing. I've just bought a 205. Not for shed money though biggrin

Always wanted to have a go in one to see if it lived up to the hype. Opportunity came up to get one so went for it.

i had 2 of these, never put me backwards through a hedge. however i sold the first one and replaced it with a renault 5 gt turbo, which did put me backwards through a hedge and rolled twice in a field. was unscathed, remarkably. me, not the car, which wasnt unscathed at all.

i'm sure he can fend them off with his hairdryer smile

I've had four 205's and i've never understood the "twitchy" comment. With decent rubber they are pretty stable to me.

I bought my 205 after watching a fifth gear episode with Vicky-B-H squealing in one as she drove one down a twisty road,I remembered how bad I wanted one when I was a kid,so I had a look on PH classifieds and bought a late 1.9 in Miami blue just like the Shed car. When I bought it I did wonder if I was having a midlife crisis and my relatives and friends sometimes "diss" my little pug,but I don't care..occasionally it has left me stranded and the AA has picked it and me up more times than I would like to remember but you know what I love it.Sometimes it has tried my patience with the odd Malady but I still love it.I actually drive it most days at the minute(leave more modern cars at home) and I have swapped most parts on the car that can be swapped striving for reliability, also I have changed the suspension for a recent technology KW variant 2 set-up and lowered it a bit,she runs on Michelin Exaltos and she handles awesomely, kept great pace at a recent track day at Coombe with more exotic cars.I know it might be considered a sin but I ripped out the original pug cloth/ leather and had her fully reupholstered in new leather/ Alcantara and updated her sound system, plus small upgrades for a fast road type spec nothing mad though and it is still just an 8 valver.
Right now it's raining and windy and I am worrying that I left her outside, these cars are ace and I don't regret buying one at all, mine has won a special place in my heart, love thrashing the nuts off it,My final comment is if you buy one it makes you feel like a kid again,i am looking forward to the drive to the gym in the morning just like I am 17 again and not 40.Go ahead have a midlife crisis the parts are cheap!

Has anyone bought this yet? J-reg, 1.6 in Miami is a 'must have' for my garage...

Pity I am 8,000 miles away, at the moment.

Good Shed! would not buy one now though. Had a 1.6 in red, they were ok but things have moved on... It was tinny, it was not fast, it was fun, it was horrible on long drives.

Might be fun on a track though but I can imagine that plenty other cars are too. and as for appreciating, I'd rather find something else that would appreciate a bit more for the garage space!

Great car for the time though and really good fun.
Correction, great car even more now than before! New cars(and sporty ones) are like jelly to drive, while this when driven properly is masculine and totally involving. Sharp reactions on the limit, but transparent, and for experienced driver(and good tyres) very secure to drive, no mushiness.

Had a red 1.6 as my first car at 19, fantastic fun car.

Picked up a mint 1.9 some years later with 40k on the clock for £2.5k ran for 6 months and sold on for £4.5k.

They are great and still look fresh today as the design is so good.

Removing the rose tinted specs they are slighty tinny and not that fast, but do make a great weekend runabout!

This looks like a bargin!
Hard to believe you sold it for £4500 after using it. And also they don't sell for £6000 either. I sold a mint 1 owner FPSH 50k 1.9 for £3250. That was the top price they were selling for around 2006.

I thought about collecting them as investments a few years back but there values have only risen slightly and thats just the real cheap ones. Around 2003 you could buy one for £300. Now its at least double to get a 205 gti.

Talking about buying 205 Gti's as investments, have you seen the prices of Mk2 XR2s? They are not around £1000 just for a average runner with MOT and are rising fast.

Not too sure why people do this? I know its personal choice, but don't you think Peugeot got it right the first time and spent years and millions developing the car.

By modifying it you lose all the pleasure and originality of car as it was meant to look as a design and technically as it was meant to feel and be driven.

You are also making it worth less in the future and risk driving round a chav-mobile no matter how well you think you have modded it.

If I was looking to buy one I would avoid anything which has been altered as you instantly assume its had a hard life.

Somebody buy it, too many excuses about distance, nowhere to keep it, etc, looks like a bargain and can only go up in value, IMHO.

My 1.9 is my excuse for not buying it.

Lol...
So KW suspension is a step back from 20 year old Pug factory dampers?(do some searches)
So I replaced the old Pug interior with fresh Leather and Alcantara instead of cloth???(done very tastefully thanks)
Sound system now works with my Iphone instead of a tape player...?(They don't sell tapes anymore)
Someone is worrying that a car featured on shed of the week is no longer as it left the factory?
Give me a break I just had dinner and I am getting indigestion from laughing too much, life is short ,it's a pug not a vintage Aston,I am going to lose a wink of sleep that it's worth 500 quid less in a purists eyes that probably likes to polish their car a bit too much?

All except KW suspension is welcome off course(because of your comfort too). Regarding KW suspension I would rather buy original dampers(because of geometry maybe etc.), but it may be also very good solution if it is good setup and if it does not affect original handling and ride. And find me an Aston that is more racy than a preserved 205 please?

Kw suspension is a great quality suspension and can be set-up according to individuals taste, softer, firmer, ride height ,it's in another league to pug standard kit.Porsche tuners at the Nurburgring use it on latest new cars and chuck the factory stuff in the skip.
The Aston comment u have misunderstood ,I was referring to the fact the pug is a car that is featured on shed and not a DB5 being auctioned at Bonhams where originality and provenance is key.If Someone wants to play and change a 205 and 90 percent of owners do ( I am a club member and have been to a few meets), what's the harm...? it's an old car of relatively low value in most cases.
For fans of Original cars that want to polish and preserve(everyone gets their kicks in different ways), there are plenty left to buy at big money,I just want to drive mine,(its not scruffy though),thats what I bought it for.And I am having a great time but appreciate all the concern it's very touching.
