If winter tyres grip better when temp less than 7 degrees then do police forces swap to them for the winter months?

Not all of them, but I'd imagine some of them do. I'd hope the ambulances and fire do too, well if it gets to the point of summer's not working (i.e. snow), rather than just cost it's cold!

We dont it was funny last year with some of the new guys who had very seldom driven in snow. At least one left his car and walked back to the factory. I had a nice easy trip between nicks as there was hardly any traffic

Force, you mean?

The rural areas of my local force are provided with a few 4x4's. I'm not sure if the force still does the offroad driving course, but it's not required to drive the 4x4's apparently. Everywhere else just gets on with it at a slower, more guarded pace.
