Audi A1 small? LOL, it's the same length and height as a Golf Mk2 and 8cm wider.

Quit moaning about the price and appreciate mental limited edition cars instead.

If more companies did stuff like this instead of playing it safe and forever producing the white goods drivel that they usually do then the car world would be a much more interesting place.

Yes you could have so many other things for the same price but the person buying this won't be thinking about those other cars.
Mental? Really? It's about as mental as a happy meal, and looks like the plastic toys that come with them.

That's some serious depreciation...£23k in three years on two cars...

If this is true it's just another example of Audi taking maximum advantage of their customers'loyalty to rip them off. 34k for a supermini!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since 2008 my wife has had a TT 3.2 Roadster(bought for 33k sold for 18), and an S3 Black Edition(bought for 31k, current value at 12 months old is about 23k) and has her eye on one of these S1's.

She wouldn't even consider another brand after the appalling mini cooper s she had before the TT and the equally rubbish peugeots and fords before that.

I think the LHD issue might be a deal-breaker, though - so that should save me a few grand!

You can spec a standard A1 to around £34k if you try!!

Mind boggling.

The sight of a manufacturer extracting the piss out of potential buyers is unedifying.

Nobody likes to think they are being treated like a fool.

Bad move Audi.

If these were available in RHD I would be having one to replace my Polo GTI. I don't want a car the size of the S3/Golf etc, I just want a small hot hatch, this is perfect for me.

Hopefully the Polo R will be available soon, I'll make do with one of those instead.
i will upgrade the OHs GTi for an R if they bring it out

Thirty four grand for a fancy Fabia. Ha. Aha. Bhahaha...! rofl
Silly comment, different platform and the Fabia can't be had with 4WD or the 2.0 TFSi.

Schwan Junges.

And it is more expensive than an actual (Aston Martin) Cygnet.

Is it really a different platform? I thought the Polo, Fabia, Ibiza and A1 were all based on the same platform, and there wasn't a 4WD version of the A1 until this car was released (which is a special product-run edition, not a completely tooled up production model).

Fabia uses an old platform, only the Ibiza/Polo/A1 have the new one, and this is the only production 4WD A1.

Well, why didn't you say that. That definitely makes it worth the asking price. Must have cost Audi a fortune to take a cheaper existing platform and put a cheaper existing drivetrain into it, paint it stupid colours, use an evocative name and take the piss with the price while laughing all the way to the bank.

Could be a future classic.

Something that small with 4WD must be huge fun to hoon about in.

Time will tell.

Why? People will happily spend £34k on a Golf or S3, why not an A1 with pretty much the same running gear? I know I'd rather have this than the S3 et al, even for the same price. I'm sure they will have no trouble shifting all 333 units, as I said before, if they did a RHD one I would be getting one.

One day later, and it's still hideous. And I actually really like the normal A1, and tend to love hot hatches that have been touched by the mental.

I wouldn't buy one at 10 grand - it's been battered with a huge ugly stick frown
