Are you really saying that Chinese tyres on an M5 is only a problem if you track it?
Yes I am. Drove the car down to Paris last year and came back through some of the heaviest rain I had ever seen. Car and tyres performed faultlessly.
In the dry summer months I dont exactly drive like a vicar and with the new Bilstein PS9 coilover suspension now fitted it handles great. It may be better with better tyres but it certainly ain't an issue as it stands.

Until you have to stop in an emergency.

I considered buying cheap tyres for my van on the basis I don't drive it that fast, then I looked at some tyre tests and saw that in the wet braking from 70 when the Continentals had stopped the Linglongs were doing 30 and the Nankangs 20.

Thats a HUGE difference, I bought proper makes.

Looks awesome mind... The wheels really suit it.
They do, but I still think the original ones are yet to be beaten.

That splitter however...vomit

I don't understand why someone would spend money making the car faster and then save money buying crappy tyres. It makes no sense.

And totally agree on the splitter.
Indeed, Splitter looks gash but LM's fake or not really suite it....

I like the wheels, I don't object to the splitter but if it was for sale I'd probably walk away after seeing the tyres.

My thinking being if they cut corners on something so essential what else have they cut corners on.

Jesus have you guys not read my post which clearly states the tyres were the only make available in the size I wanted at he time I wanted. Since the seller gave me an excellent price on the original alloys which were corroded to fk, what do you propose I should have done - told him bks ?
I am not in the habit of wasting my hard earned so I will leave them on until they are worn then I will replace them with something better. It's taking it's time because I drive it so little. Phew !

As for it being for sale - not a chance, ever !

The original alloys ran Continentals and despite the other posters comments I can't say I have noticed any real difference in all situations.
I will most likely go back to them this summer as I have now dropped plans to supercharge it !

We saw it but we ignored because it obviously wasn't the case that the only tyres available in the M5's size were Nangkangs. What you mean is that the only tyres available as a wheel and tyre package from a low cost alloy supplier were Nangkangs which is a rather different thing.

I have bought wheels with cheap tyres before - I sell the tyres on Ebay and put proper ones on.

If you haven't noticed a problem then either you have the only set of good Nankangs they've ever made or you drive like a girl.

wink

While we're laying into the poor bloke, has anyone noticed the fact that the front and rear of the car are different shades of blue?

Yes, but I was hoping that was some sort of reflection!

You cock. Since when were 19" alloys an e39 M5 standard size you total bell end ! It seems from your profile that's it's highly unlikely you will ever own one so try and keep the jealousy under control eh. Failing that you come and find me at the next PH meeting and we can have chat and I can educate you on how different an M5 is to the shopping trolley you drive. No need for thanks it all part of the service.

Here is a link to the low cost alloy supplier in case you wanna take your 530 there smile

Yeah when I got it, I had the rear right hand painted in a different shade to give Pistonheads users some reason to post. Sorry I should have made that clearer.

In an attempt to duck the flying handbags in here that aren't adding anything to the discussion (either take the ad hominem to PM chaps, or preferably just don't bother), I'll take the moment to post the sort of M5 I'd be looking for in the OP's position:

Fox, you may wish to look away now as I have a feeling this combination in particular will engender a terminal bout of itchy wallet syndrome, in a good way.

Looks very tidy, facelift car in what looks like excellent condition and with (just) under 100k miles up and as additional incentive and perhaps more pertinent than any of that:

At ML or similar I think it'd be wearing a £12k+ price tag, so at £10k seems fair, provided all is as it purports to be. It'd be a no-brainer at £8.5-9k I think, so to end up somehere in the first half of the 9ks wouldn't be a terrible result.

That's the sort of thing I'd be looking at to make a keeper of for the next ten years to put 5-6k miles of recreational use on per year. A grand or so's worth of cheapy 523/8i manual would then suffice for the daily mundanity bit.
