Sorry if this has been covered before but Im on the iPhone and it doesnt seem to have the search function active when on the mobile site

Basically I want to purchase a car frm the UK and permanently Export it. Ive read the stuff on the tax office website but its all a little technical for my little brain. So as far as Im concerned:-

Scenario 1: I buy frm a dealer. Can I claim the VAT on purchase price?

Scenario 2: I buy through private
Sale. Can I claim VAT?

More so if I can claim VAT on private sale is it pretty straight forward? Hope to get a Range Rover Sport 5.0 SC next year

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Jkay

Scenario 1. Only if the car is VAT qualifying, (and being exported to a non EU country).

Scenario 2. No. If by privately you mean from an individual, and not a business that runs 'pool cars'.

Are you a VAT registered business in another country? If not, forget about claiming it back.

If you are in a position to claim it back you'll be liable to pay it in the country you take the car to.

I don't know much about exporting but have heard you could need 2 keys along with the v5 etc as people have been known to get a hire car and export it straight away. So having two keys reduces the chances of it being stolen.

Your best bet would be to find a dealer who is used to dealing with military sales as they'll understand what's involved in getting you a pink export log book.

Once registered IIRC it needs to be exported within 30 days or the VAT becomes liable again.

If they're still going try and get hold of a company called Central Vehicle Exports. I used to supply them cars a few years ago.
