  • **ing FUMING right now.
Couple of days ago my family informed me that their multi-car policy had added my (sold) vehicle when the insurance was due to be renewed. I did have my own separate policy through a sister company, though I had cancelled my insurance when I sold it. The reason they had the info was because my mother once asked for a quote to include my vehicle, but declined the offer. Nobody asked them insure my vehicle, they didn't even have the courtesy to ring me. They just did it and posted some letters to my parents house where I used to live.

Rang up, and explained that I had sold the car, cancelled the insurance with the sister company and told them to cancel this mess. They then had the nerve to try and charge me for a cancellation fee. I quoted their 2 wk cancellation policy and they dropped it (I didn't even ask for it in the first place!!!).

All good? NO. A week later my family receive letters stating that ALL the vehicles on the multi-car have been removed. The chap on the phone seemed to be perfectly coherent and understanding at the time, I wasn't ****-faced when I made the call either. I clearly explained that I sold MY car.

Luckily nobody had been involved in an incident or scanned by the cops. Now it's NY eve and I have no idea if they're open tomorrow, and the family can't go anywhere until they have insurance. ****.

Their admin is next to useless..

I've just got out of a multicar policy. Cancelled both cars, got cancellation documents X2 for one car with the other still down for renewal!!

Never again. Don't even get me started on the call centres abroad.

I had a broadly similar experience with an insurer recently. On confused.com I had put a quote in for no mods other than a backbox. I rang to change the car details over after swapping it and apparently I'd never been insured as the "backbox" appeared on their system as a "3rd party alarm system" Brilliant.

Which is why, once you click through from an aggregator like confused you need to go through everything on the insurer's own site to ensure that it's been completed correctly. Data mapping mistakes do happen and they also make assumptions (which is how they can do the "quote in 60 seconds" malarkey).

yes

Although if the insurer you ended up going with was part of the Admiral Group (who own confused.com) then they need a kicking for that being able to happen.

The only multi-car insurance I've ever been happy with was Iggy Pop. Cancelled last year when their prices got silly, and now I'm not so privileged to receive the new level of service.

Is that the "nautical" lot? That fact alone is enough to make me take my business elsewhere

I didn't think they had any foreign call centres unless Wales counts.

Let me guess, the worst customer services in the industry?

Misquoted (lied) to me twice on the same policy
They threatened to cancel the whole policy
Could never get a decision right in a letter
Spent hours on the phone
Dumped them this year
Absolute muppets.

I think all new business is Wales.. Customer service (the important bit!)..

if you ring before half 10ish is Wales (this is what I ended up doing)

Any other time was India or whatever (these are by far the worst - a huge issue with language) they simply don't understand what you're trying to say.

Then I've been referred to someone in Canada from the Indians!

No wonder it's 8p a minute

I had similar issues with the same insurer as the OP...sold cars added back onto policies come renewal, NCBs swapped between cars without me asking and various mistakes including registration plate! I check askMID frequently around renewal time.

Strange - I've only ever spoken to Welsh people when I've called - not always/maybe not even ever before 10.

laugh Might be worth noting that I'm with the one with a trunk, not the sea fairer. Although I'm 99% sure it's all the same call centre and the person on the end of the phone will be told on the screen which you've called so they can greet you properly.

I can guess which insurance conglomerate this refers to...

I called them a while back to change from my RX8 to an Audi A4. Gave them a ring, advised of new reg number, they said "That will be £30 extra". I was a little perplexed, and advised that I would imagine my insurance would decrease...

"Oh, you want to change the CAR".

Really? Really? I wasn't advising you of my new exciting vanity plate "T477 WAN"...

And/ or, you get what you pay for. If you buy the cheapest, what do you expect?
