Careful what details you put into these comparison sites for insurance quotes. I did this last June after my car was written off by an uninsured driver.
Somewhere I must have left a 'do not share my information' box inticked. I am still getting calls from companies offering me compensation.

They have my blinkin' address, landline number, know the make of vehicle and value of the claim and brief circumstances of the accident.

Every time they phone, they're fishing for more details, 'did I have a pain in my neck after the accident?' Yeah, you fkers calling me every five minutes.

And/ or, you get what you pay for. If you buy the cheapest, what do you expect?
This is a fair point, however for some people, including me, the price differential is absolutely massive. The next cheapest insurer for me is literally double the price.

Just been running quotes for an M3. Bell: £724 Adrian flux: £1400.

Stuff that...

I'm the same, was £490 vs £3000 last year, probably less of a difference this year.

So I don't expect much more than Plod being satisfied that I HAVE insurance smile

Let me guess, the worst customer services in the industry?

Misquoted (lied) to me twice on the same policy
They threatened to cancel the whole policy
Could never get a decision right in a letter
Spent hours on the phone
Dumped them this year
Absolute muppets.

Maybe... biggrin To be honest, their sister company screwed up once and the result was a very favourable policy on my end. They essentially told me I could insure at a cheaper post code as long as it was there for 50%+ of the year, I made them repeat this on the phone and then went and bought the car (purchase was insurance dependent, and they were informed of this). I found out later when I re-confirmed that no, this was not acceptable! They checked the call and admitted it was their fault.

On another occasion I rang up for a quote on a new car and gave all my details, despite being with their sister company. Fine, whatever, I guess I kinda understand. Few days later the sister company ring me to say they're marking up my insurance due to a previously unmentioned accident (??). Lady on the phone checked the date and lookee, it was already registered.

Totally agree, the majority of the time it's plain sailing. Knock in details to their website, give them the ref # and tailor it further if necessary. Then sit back for a year. It's only when I need to talk to their people that it goes ***s up. I only ever get miscommunication issues when being connected to a certain continent... But that normally involves confusing situations like these and the differentiation between ARB's and roll cages... rotate

I've found it varies a lot depending on the competency of the person on the other end of the phone and how good their English is.

That has nothing to do with leaving that box unticked. Your insurance company sold your details to accident claims companys.

Adrian flux seem to have been getting progressively worse though, and they arent know for their customer service either.

When I bought my monaro they quoted me a very good £1300, only to be told when I rang again that the quote had changed to £3000 in the space of 10 days. I was less than pleased.

I have accepted that to get insurance you have to accept dire customer service and mistakes.

I too had an issue with the bloke with a parrott on his shoulder.

Lady reversed blind (she wasn't!) into our companies driveway as I was coming out of it. I stopped but she kept coming and she ended up doing £1500 worth of damage. She claimed 50/50 and we were both with "Lord Nelson" so they were also pushing for a 50/50 claim in order to claim two excesses, this was even after I'd provided CCTV footage showing that I was stationary at point of impact.

I ended up taking the person who hit me to County Court for my excess, which resulted in her panicking and finally admitting full liability to the insurance company. I got my no claims, excess and Court fees back from the insurance company biggrin

What the hell happened to an honest society, everyone is always trying to make other people suffer for their mistakes! frown

All these horror stories make me so glad that I am now with NFU Mutual, I've used the search type insurers before, plus some of the specialists (flux & MCE) but NFU give me better cover, a local office (no call centre st) brilliant customer service & at a cost that is lower for my supercharged F150 & only a few quid more for my commercial vehicles, although as they don't rip you off on fees for change of vehicle & the like, I reckon they save me money there to.

I use an online only insurer, they were the cheapest last year, but this year I have had cheaper quotes from others, though my current insurer is cheapest again if I only wanted 3rd party fire and theft. However, being "online only" to keep their costs down, they don't have a phone service, only a line for "technical help" and it's a pound a minute. Their service this year has not been bad, but I won't be using them again next year. I would not want to be caught in a difficult spot though, as being unable to contact them by anything other than email would be a total pain in the arse.

Hmm, I wondered about this. DL claimed they simply didn't know how information was getting to these people. When I did ask one of these companies how they got my details, the chap's explanation was from insurance comparison websites. And I was pretty sure I ticked all the relevant boxes too.

Apologies for the bump, but...

After the holidays I managed to get in touch with my insurers and the other end told me that the cars were still insured and they were not cancelled! Though the one I asked for was! ****ing hell!

Just need to watch the bills now to make sure the numbers are all adding up!

Conversely, from the same group of insurers, my wife has gone all nautical and mine have got the trunk, and we have both spoken to them about:
Change of address
Change of name (wife's maiden name to married name)

And I have changed my car. Each time they have been brilliant.

It's car insurance FFS, I'm not going to pay extra for a specialist company: I buy it online for the cheapest price and hope I don't have to use it.
