There is, in my NotJayLeno'sGarage, a special section for supercars of the 80's. There are three spaces to be filled:
288GTO
F40
959
As there are only three spaces, the 7-litre Lister Jag XJ-S constantly whinges outside the roller shutter door waiting (in vain) to be let in.
I'll always have a soft spot for the F40. I still have a Fast Lane magazine from 1989 upstairs with the headline, "0-170 in 25 Seconds". It refers to their F40 test figures.

you been peeking in my fantasy garage or what?
Yes I have.
Looks a little small for a fantasy garage, though (3 cars).

That was absolutely brilliant! Drivers seemed to be having a huge amount of fun as well! Interesting that the NSX-R was able to keep pace though, and a good show for the (Veilside?) Supra.

"Video does not exist"
Yes - we've just noticed that. Must have been taken down this morning for some reason. Boo, hiss... etcWe're working on rooting it out... though it may not be possible
Plenty of other vids in this thread to feast on though.
Oh, and I'll have mine in yellow please.

I bought a Burago model of one as soon as it was available and spent just a little bit too long looking at it he as far as my new wife was concerned. We are no longer together.
Believe it or not the Bburago models mirrored the speculator appeal of the real thing when the car was launched. Ferrari weren't daft and pitched the F40 at a far higher price than their 288GTO predecessor. Even so they ended up selling five time as many and some speculators paid getting on for a million quid for their real one.
Whilst all this madness was going on the Bburago model promptly disappeared from the toy shop shelves after just a few days. There was rumour about moulds being damaged at the factory. People were scouring the globe for them and bringing them back to flog at crazy prices. I heard talk of 400 quid being paid for them. A Ferrari collecting friend of ours managed to track one down and gave it to us as a present. Alas a few months later the bubble had burst and the shops were suddenly awash with them and have been ever since. We ended up with 3, one of which suffered the ignominy of being resprayed yellow. We've still got them, but they're worth nothing these days.

Ah, I was looking at that one the other day - June 89 issue. They tried to tantalize the reader by showing pics of the 959 and the 7 litre XJS on the cover as well as the F40 and asking which one turned the figures in Me and mates used to frequently drop by Graypaul's in Loughborough while at uni there. Usually we just dribbled at the window, but one time the bored sales staff invited us into the showroom- a selection of Daytonas, 308s, 328s 400/412s, and 355s. After a bit of chinwagging, the sales manager asked if we'd like to see the workshop... duh...
Like a magnet we found ourselves all but pouring over the F40 just about to have its service- the guy opened up the rear clam and oooo I just came. What you don't get in photos is the size of everything in there- pretty much all tyres and combined engine bits.
He also pointed to the garage manager's DB5, which was also nice. But the size of the workshop was incredible, maybe 3 times the size of the showroom and just packed with ferraris. Probably a few of every road car they made at the time.
I often think back to that day and smile.
But back on topic- the F40 will always be my dream car of choice- it just captured something that nothing else quite did at the time.

I remember back in 1990 trying to keep up with an F40 in my Countach QV. The noise was incredible. We were at Silverstone on a Club 96 track day.
I only caught the guy when the bloody thing caught fire. The guy was gutted but fortunately the on board fire extinguisher saved most of the engine.
Re the post about Graypaul. I was in there one day and the workshop had an F40 in and the roof was signed by Senna!!! I wonder where that car is now!
I have two models in my office:-
Countach QV
F40

Same. Same.If I remember correctly, when I started uni there in 2003 there was one for sale in the window at £155,000 I'm pretty sure. Oh how the prices have changed in a relatively short while.
an F40, wrapped in something nice to protect it, like this carbon weave wrap:

I found the videos that were as you put it... "liberated" We actually had then on Axis of Oversteer before, the in-car and rear clips were shot a Lime Rock by (23 year old...grrr ) Mike Schein. The car was an F40 LM. So awesome.

That is indeed stolen footage from the Milk Films production for DKTV!!
Sections 0:34 to 1:15 & 2:20 to 3:00 are both staright from the DK Engineering F40 video...
The full and official DKTV video can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e01zpaVVnZ0
(the F40 sound is a little better on this one!)
As it's spreading the F40 love we cant really complain!!
A credit would have been nice, wasn't cheap to make!
I agree, credits are very important, eh Jimmy ? !Sections 0:34 to 1:15 & 2:20 to 3:00 are both staright from the DK Engineering F40 video...

I'm not the sort to go weak at the knees at the sight of a Supercar........... but these do give me a bit of a wobble
Definately Ferrari's finest hour and the more technological it's successors become the greater the F40 will remain
I went in one at Dads Day Out at Dunsfold in 2010 and it didn't disappoint in fact it was a talking point for days
I have to confess to a bit of F40 stalking though
