RE: SOTW: Hyundai Coupe V6

I guess it would feel like your being short changed using so much petrol for so little return?
on wiki times for 0-60 by american testers is around 7 seconds, doesn't seem that bad. Also I had one of the smallest capacity v6 (mx3) which did about 27 mpg, and when you have driven onem the little returns (bhp) is the least of your thoughts as the noise, the feeling of a v6 always outweighs the four pot for smiles per mile.
But it depends on what you look for in cars and some buy for noise and total experience.

The reason i especially dont like Hyundai's now is because 1- their owners carnt except they have bought a rubbish car.
2- Hyundai drivers block up the roads.
Go ask Clarkson and the boys what they think.
Also as a petrolhead i like to think of my car being the best it can, not having limited power because of shoddy internals.
Theres no reason why you shouldn't go to BMW, Merc, Audi, Toyota or Nissan.
I dont have much of a social life because im usually working or on the road am i supposed to apologise for this too, ohh sorry for being honest too.
Thats the last comment from me on this Goodnight.

Sometimes straightforward is good.
Nobody ever said this car was trying to have the greatest specific output in its class.
As long as it doesn't have inherent expensive to repair flaws or complicated systems made out of cheese, then I see it as a safe bet.
Yes it's not technically impressive. It's not supposed to be. My pushrod yank v8 has 7.6% greater specific output, but so what.
I am curious what the torque curve is like. It might not be so bad.

Im a 46 year old man, have a job that requires decent transportation, have driven most of the major makes in my country, i was a VW mechanic in the 90's.I have successfully tuned and modified cars and vans. Just because im not scared to share my opinion you insult me.Anything else?Ted Rolson said:

He's not insulting you. It just seems that you don't know what you're talking about. I used to have a Polo in the 90's. (I'm glad you did'nt service it... )I have successfully tuned and modified cars and vans.

The Hyundai is not the world's best car. But that is'nt the point. And the reason why the V6 is relatively low powered is presumably because it is in a low state of tune, or maybe tuned for torque. Whatever - it does'nt really matter. I think we can be sure that it is not because of "st internals" as you put it - because these cars can do big mileages.
There is nothing wrong with Hyundai's other than being a bit dull.
Go to the US. Go to any major city in Asia. Go to any major city in the Middle East ( a tough place for car reliability ) and you will see thousands and thousands of Hyundai's. Most of them have got mega-miles on them and they just keep on going.
I am more likely to believe that there is not much wrong with Hyundai's as millions of Asian taxi drivers swear by them, than believe your rather strange views..
The final proof that Hyundai's are basically very well made, sound but dull cars, is their warranty. How many European manufacturers warranty their cars for 7 years? And if they did, how many would go bust because of the warranty work?

Based on my MY2010 Picanto they might well be taking a risk on earlier 7 year warranty cars but the new stuff is great. Mouse1903 said:
I hate them now. Had one guy undercut me in one, and then when I was doing 30 behind him he tried to be clever and slow down to 20. Sad little man. It's the type of car you wouldn't expect to be driven by people like this
You hate the car because you saw one being driven by a prick? Surely by that measure you must hate ALL cars?Wading into the thread a little late I know, but I’ve been webless for a few days and posting on the mobile is just a right PITA!!!
Sorry if this is already in the thread but I haven’t read it all!
Anyway, my 2p worth – my mrs has a 03 1.6 coupe S, same shape as the shed. And I drive it often as we car share to work and alternate cars.
She bought it 4 yrs ago (I think) with just 17k on the clocks having had one previous lady driver who had a very small commute so it hardly got over 30mph at any day. When we collected it from the garage it felt a little sluggish, we sent it back to the garage to have it checked over, they couldn’t find anything, continued to run it for a few weeks and it started ‘loosening up’, so looked like it just needed a good NSL run, which it got an a Cardiff – Birmingham motorway run. Been sweet as a nut since. No major problems to report mech wise either. Service costs are reasonable. Last major service required a timing belt change, 7yrs or 100k I think the book said. Last MOT failed due to sticky calliper, turned out to be a broken piston seal, a recon unit was picked up for £25, fitted and flew through.
The interior isn’t that different on the 1.6 to the V6, lacks a few extra dials, no leather (but think it could have been optional extra as most things.). The room in the front is ample for my 6’2 frame, and while it does get a little achy on longer drives (mainly down to ruined knees), its still comfortable. Rear room is limited at best if anyone is in the front even for smaller kids, but still interior wise not a bad place to be.
Performance wise, the 1.6 is ok, 105bhp I believe. Handles really good on the twisty stuff, accelerates like a cat with a firecracker up its backside, but quickly the torque drops off over 4000rpm. Longer drives/motorway miles can get a bit boring and noisy, the gearing is suited to low down pull imo, will chug along in 5th at 30 all day, it would definitely benefit from a 6th gear for motorways. The way I sum it up to friends is looks better than it goes!
I also think it would do well on a track with some performance upgrades, handling is spot on, but then Porsche did have a part in that, if it were RWD and the 2ltr had better grunt than 140bhp it would be interesting to enter into a few championships.
I find it more of a girls car tbh, and this is reinforced by the fact that most others I see on the road are driven by women.
Besides, Hammond loves the car!

Because everything car related must get the top gear seal of approval! dont get me wrong i love top gear, but would i use their view on the car i was considering? no. i'd drive it and if it turned out to be the same as tehy said then thats just fine, but what they like and i like are more than likely complete oppositesBesides, Hammond loves the car!
