I think this highlights one thing, just how awesome rally events used to be and how they are now a mere shadow of their former selves these days. Spectacular jumps, firebreathing cars, deafening anti-lag and flinging dirt going sideways through every corner is what we want to see. Instead we get the politically correct watered down version, what a shame.

Brilliant!

While we're on the subject of Mk2 escort buffoonery, this footage of Simon McKinley never fails to leave me in awe....

That Lancia looks epic to drive. The trouble is I cannot name one car currently on sale that handles like this.

By that I mean firm, high torque to weight ratio and rwd to give it that feeling of lightness and 'chuckability'.

I not a difficult thing to ask! A mass produced 2.0t like the vag unit in something megan size/cost. Rwd and without unwanted luxury fat would probably do it.

That is brilliant!

Ford - the perfect old rally car, really good video, dont know what amused me most the commentary, comments or speed of the steering wheel. Cornering technique absolutely brilliant.

I think the ultimate rallying experience was this, the Mobil 1 Rally Challenge. Top circuit and rally drivers of the day driving identical Novas, Cosworths, M3s, Integrales over various rally stages, including the Isle of Man.

Rally heaven.

We need the right intro music if we're talking about rallying.....

Dad used to work at a Vauxhall dealership, he brought home a huge poster of Russel Brooks sideways on gravel in a Manta 400. That had pride of place on my wall for years.
Similar to this (but better-)

I've never seen Esgair Dafydd so dry, that section is usually under a few inches of mud.
Great watch.

Cool stuff.

Do any of the rally games for the various consoles get anywhere close to simulating these kind of cars, all the racing games do seem to have a fixation with Subaru Imprezas, very nice but I want a Manta or HSR.
Dirt 3 allows Manta's (in vaious famous colours) , Sierra Cosworths, Group B, Escorts etc etc

Stig Blomqvist in the Lotus Sunbeam is incredible, looks like a pro drifter on the way down. Short wheelbase, gravel and RWD, and still pretty damn quick...
