Looks nice. I even like the lights. Even better with a bit of a chip.

the lights aren't bad, but the all-chrome grille is hideous....don't understand the appeal in that; especially on a silver car....silver overload or what!
I want the purple 728 that GMS have. Or any of theirs tbh.

Or a 530 sport. Oh man.ntoday has ruined my Honda love.

also noticed in advert he says cam-belt position sensor replaced as it's a common issue, then says that it has a cam chain. errrr, am i missing something?
Prolly means either crankshaft or cam position sensor. Either way, it certainly doesn't have both a chain and a belt. hehe

Amen Graham. That Alpina will feature heavily in my passing thoughts for many days to come. I kinda feel I need something a touch more glorious for our N24 trip next week...

Ideas welcome

The Imola Red 735i Sport gets my vote.

An Imola Red '50 Sport would be heaven indeed, but I can well imagine either none or one were ever built that way for the UK.

Meant to add it should be a 2000 'new shape' onwards t5.
£2k will just about get you a leggy and less than ideal example of the 285 series V70 T5s, most likely ex-Plod and as such, sub SE spec, whereas it should also get a decent example of the 875 series V70. The older shape also feels lighter and more responsive, drinks a bit less and possesses a turning circle considerably better than that of the Queen Mary.

True but they are rather dated now. Looking at the market - 100k cars are circa £1.5 to £2.5k. Some are more. Would avoid ex police, well maintained and well thrashed, not to mention the utter c**p talked about police mods to make they go faster.... if you spot anything tasty please post up! Thanks.

So despite owning a car that does everything I need, I'm already getting the urge to change. Must persuade myself that I can't do this for some time as my current car does pretty much everything I need it to do very well although more grunt is always nice.

Now I don't want to give Fox a heart attack but...

How many were there, 12? And yes, I may be bidding.
That's lovely and rare. Worth swapping the 330i out for IMO.
It's a shame about the damage on that one. Very rare spot though. Slightly jealous.

Incidentally, I just returned from my LEJOG trip, where my 540iA tourer was the support vehicle. 2,103 miles at 25.6 mpg, of which about 1,000 miles were fully laden, with 3 bikes on the roof. The rest were with only one person, but loads of kit in. The old man might have had a bit of a play in Scotland too, so that's not too bad economy I don't think.

Liking that Touring, there's a properly nice motor in there with a bit of tidying.

Perhaps not large enough to be a proper barge, but I can't help but feel love for this:

Who doesn't want a Maserati with 2 turbos and 4 doors. All the car you could ever need and you get to say "I own a Maserati"...

i wouldn't go anywhere near that, not only because i think it looks awful, but because it would be extortionate to keep, i suspect.

A working Maser for £2k. Madness.

Most endearing terms I've ever heard rust described in too.

The clock will be the only bit that works anywhere near reliably. Until it breaks.

The only people who feel any sexual twinge when regarding such metal is sad old weirdbeard men. Like us and even then, far from all.

JAYB might give you a desultory handshandy, but that's the limit of any action that car will buy you.

Gents. Apologies for the obvious, but I must admit to being rather enamoured with this:

I'm doing some serious motorway munching of late, I reckon ideal family wagon with ~20% better empeegees. I've also been eyeing late E46 330i Tourings, but reckon a late E39 is the right call.

At £3k, yes but not at £5k. Whether you're a fan of it or not, that is E60 money and if you don't like the E60 is probably better spent on an A6 Avant Quattro or something.

yup. i noticed an E60 530d with around 110k for cheaper.

i don't care what people say, on non-RFT's the ride is really quite good.

Like it. My Dad had a Tornado Red 90 with the 2.3 10v engine. The proprietor of the local garage who looked after it had a 2.3 20v Quattro which I thought was amazing.
