Why would you ditch your 540 for a shabby old merc!?
No fear, a 190E is not for me. The only cars I'd replace the 540i for would be an M5, W140 S500 or an E32/E38 750i.

Most definitely.

There's something really rather special that a lot of modern barges lack. You know there was a sense of real pride for the owner.

Would be a great lottery win smoker. thumbup

Arguably a barge in auto Pina guise. Arguably not a bargain if the 'box could let go soon but still cheap!

Gents. A little advice for my Uncle & Aunty please..

They have upto £6K to spend on a BMW 5 series. They've had an E39 520i Touring in the past and really liked it. (It got written off when an Asda van ploughed into it- they were indoors watching TV!)
They're not to fussed about the E60 shape, or the idea of an iDrive system to control radio etc.

It has to be an auto. Saloon or estate is fine (but probably estate)
They drive less than 7000 miles a year, so fuel consumption not a huge issue.

I was thinking something like this

Guys slight thread hijack, just after some advice please from you BMW beards.

My friend has offered me his car. I wasn't sure until I drove it, fallen in love with it really.

Its a 52 plate BMW 5 series E39 530i sport, its also the mtech model. Its done 128k, full bmw service history and its an auto. There is a few scuffs on the bodywork here and there, but generally its immaculate.

So apart from it not being brilliant on juice (28mpg possible?) is there anything I should be aware of that is prone to failure and potentially ruining me financially? I would have used the search but its not working.

I posted that up in another thread - or was it here, cant recall.

Either way, what annoys me most is the autotrader advert is set as 60k, and it is actually 68k. Small things but hate traders that do that.

They're a bit st, but if he wants to offload it I suppose I could find room for maybe £1500. He'd be robbing me blind though.

Looks good value though no interior pics?

Looks like it's had the front wings done (std E46 problem) but the from the pics the match doesn't look 100%. Or it might just be the light.
I came to post just that. Those two things and its price make me think it would be a dissapointing viewing. Just get that feeling really.

I believe CD splashed the cash, however regrettably 2 miles down the road it imploded and he's awaiting recovery by the RAC.
