The Car Salesman's Thread
Discussion
Easiest deal in the world yesterday, I just had to answer the phone! Guy saw a Fiesta on our website, as long as I included tax at the screen price he would pay by card in full there n then ove the phone as long as I could deliver it today as it's a birthday present for his mum! Err.......go on then, car was already taxed! Took the car home with me last night and delivered it first thing this morning. It was a complete surprise to his mum and they couldn't have been happier!!

Todays tyre kicker is potentially tomorrows sale - treat EVERYONE with respect and courtesy, your treatment of a customer should not be linked to their treatment of you - they are a potential and you are a potential seller - they hold all the cards
Quite. I cannot imagine you get many test pilots in a Kia showroom anyway. Just because they dont buy today doesnt mean they were 'fing tyre kickers!!!'. Perhaps they were just doing pre-purchase research and might return once they've checked out the competition?Fox- said:
Surely this is a good thing? They have no idea what they want, are just getting an idea and dont want to take up any of your time. They wont buy today so why are you bothered that they dont wish to speak to you?
If only all customers who were only researching were like that!
Whether it's today or tomorrow or in a month, I want to sell something to everyone that walks on this forecourt, they can research all they like and I have no problem if someone wants to browse, as long as they aren't downright rude about it like the couple this morning that drove me to vent my frustration! If only all customers who were only researching were like that!
My world ended this morning. Got to work, open boots, grab a cup of tea, log on to my computer etc etc a few minutes free before the morning meeting so thought I'd check PH as you do! PH has now been blocked on our network!!
There are so many emotions running through my mind, all of the above are totally applicable!

Any half decent tracking software will see you are bypassing the proxy.
If a company doesnt want you surfing, is it worth risking your job trying to 'beat the system'?
web5 didn't work! What has pissed me off most is that Auto Express (good new car news), Evo, Top Gear and the like have also been blocked! If a company doesnt want you surfing, is it worth risking your job trying to 'beat the system'?

just found this thread and enjoyed reading through it, as I'm just about to make a career change from a till monkey at my local food shop, to a car salesman really looking forward to it all, the only thing that I'm worried about it that I will be going self employed, and know nothing about it
So are you becoming a trader? I'm sure we're all dying to know more on this....I was in today, had a bad start to the day with a cancellation on a used Kia Rio, but made up for it with 3 deals this afternoon! January has certainly been a progressive month after a slow start!
Been relatively busy here this morning, I've recently moved from Ford to Audi and it's a breath of fresh air!! A nice laid back approach to management and not hassled about making sure I've got the inside leg measurement of the people who just want a brochure or just want to look around without pressure! I'm loving the trade again after becoming disillusioned after making the move to management at Ford, back to selling and doing what I love! Can't beat it the job satisfaction from making a sale, 3 this week and plenty to work on come January!!
Had a good one today, the old 'interfering parent' but with a funny twist!
Customer comes into the showroom with the mother, wants an a certain model, new or used but budget is key. I identify the one and only car I have a chance of selling which is on the forecourt but unpriced. I ask my manager how much it owes and we stick a healthy amount on top to cover the inevitable negotiation! Customer loves the car, loves the drive and if the figures are right, we have a deal! I present everything full up which is £40 over monthly budget and all the way through my presentation I'm hearing tuts and sighs from the mother, especially regarding PX price! Anyway, customer tells me where we need to be to get the business and I trot back off to the office, knowing we can do it and still make a killing! I come back with a counter offer and again the mother is sighing, tutting, asking for more and more and then to her surprise, her offspring holds out their hand, shakes mine and deals! BOOM! It's so satisfying watching someone defy their own mother!

This attitude always amuses me. Anyone buying anything will ALWAYS try and get the best deal they can, why wouldn't they?
Yet when a business also tries to get the best deal they can, they're somehow a rip off!
I think what people dislike is the tone of the post - it seems like he's gloating over the fact that the buyer has caved in before he needed to. Yet when a business also tries to get the best deal they can, they're somehow a rip off!
Everyone has a right to make a profit, but no-one should look down on "the punter" because they've paid more than they could have.
I'd built a great rapport with the customer and every party was more than happy with the deal that was agreed! Customer gets the car they want at the price they want to pay! I just love getting one over an interfering parent!!
'Best deal' customers can be their own worst enemy! A couple of weekends ago, a couple arrive at the dealership and are interested in an A1 for the wife with an MX-5 to PX. The husband tells me he has bought 4 cars from us and always got great discount, which it later transpires were all lease cars to his company and sold at a loss. Anyway, normal process ensues, she loves the drive of the car, we're getting on great, if we can agree the figures they will order a new stock car. I present a full up deal, going in low on the PX as we all would to start with, and explain that the margin in A1 is tiny (which is true!) but where do we need to be to get his business. He then proceeds to tell me how I'm insulting him by not offering my best price straight away, that he's a great customer of ours and I need to beat what BMW are offering on a 1 Series but he won't tell me what they are offering! Despite my best efforts to get him to see sense and negotiate with me, he just refuses and ends up walking out!
After a exchanging a few emails during the following week, I get the impression he may be mellowing after I explained that every customer is offered a full up deal to start with and then we negotiate a deal that both parties are happy with. But no, his following email was along the lines of 'Ok I understand, send me your best price and I'll consider it!' My response was basically 'When you're ready to discuss a realistic deal, come and see me'
Not heard from him since!
