Ok heres the consideration at the moment.

We currently have a PUG 307 1.6HDi on 130,000 miles and just found out that our neighbour is going to be selling their clio, 06 reg.

I know they aren't very well known for their reliability but then again neither is the pug.

The thing that's swaying us towards the clio is that it has an original 15000 miles on it and one elderly lady owner, but always serviced on time etc.

Do you guys think it would be wise to get rid of the 307 before it throws up any big bills?

Surely an 06 clio on 15000 miles will be reliable?

No, not necessarily. I would actually prefer a near 6 year old car to have done 10k a year so 60k. Cars like to be used and warmed up properly. I bet those 15k miles have been all short journeys to the shops with the oil never getting warm. Not good at all for a car. The Hdi engine is a good one if looked after and at 130k will have thousands of miles left in it yet. The rest of the car may not though. 307's aren't exactly known for their reliability! Personally I wouldn't buy the Clio.

Short journeys and low miles aren't necessarily a good thing. 80k of motorway miles is more often than not far less stressful on a car's components than half that number of miles in town.

Buy based on condition not miles, as they say.

The 307 I reckon is starting to go down hill, mainly just body and interior quality etc.

Ill have to give the Clio a once over and make an executive decision for the father. (he hasnt made the best motoring decisions in the past! See: Pug 307.
