Been looking into my first Supercar, but cant make up my mind.
Always loved the F355, now older are alot cheaper.
Then theres the spaceage GTR,but is only availble in semi auto.

They are both around the same price, apart from servicing.
The ferrari's a dream, but hassle, were as the GTR is modern, but still a nissan.
Your thoughts please???

Cheers

Totally different ends of the "Driving experience" spectrum. Both are brilliant, but very different. Analogue, mechanical and organic, Italian vs more digital, performance oriented and Japanese.

FWIW, I'd take the GT-R and an exhaust upgrade.

First post, and it's about buying a supercar? Be prepared for other posters to tell you to come back when you're old enough to own a licence. wink

Remember that there's no such thing as a cheap Ferrari. Cheap to buy, yes... but not to run.

If I were in your shoes, I'd take the GT-R every day of the week... but the whole point of a supercar is that it's an emotional thing. The men on this forum don't all fall in love the same type of woman; we'll never fall in love with the same type of car.

If you know that you'll be thinking "I wish I'd bought the Ferrari" after buying a GT-R, then buy the Fezza. Just make sure you have deep pockets.

If that's the case, the big Nissan will be a poor substitute imo.

For what it's worth, the Nissan does nothing for me personally. Sure, it's reputedly a very capable machine, but I get the impression that the Ferrari has a bit more of a sense of occasion. Oh, and let's not forget, the F355 is utterly stunning (especially in TDF Blue).

I assume you are going to test drive them?

Should be able to take one on approval, it really pays to get to know the vehicle you are going to invest in.

Never owned a supercar; I would love to be in your position!

Im in a similar situation.Ive fancied a GTR for a while now but the lure of a ferrari has always been there.
I have been thinking about a 360 rather than a 355 though and one of the main reasons is that a ferrari of that age and price isn't going to depreciate anywhere near as much if any.

As far as running costs go I would think again.I have been looking into them for a while now and the GTR has running costs which would make even a modern ferrari owner cry into his cornflakes!

In terms of refinement and performance the GTR will be one of the best you can get, and is likely to cost less than the Ferrari to run. That said its not as good looking as the Ferrari, and doesnt sound nearly as good.

Its a case of taste at the end of the day. For me it would be the Ferrari. Yes its slower and probably costs a lot more to run, but I would have one over a GTR every time.

not driven the fezza but have driven the datsun (i had a deposit down initially) monster performance, proper mental, but very playstation (ie the computer hides how crap you are, which is a very good thing in my case lol), they are expensive to run but cheaper than a fezza

The Nissan is probably the better car in just about every measurable way...

... but supercars have never been about measurable things. Only you can decide which you want.

Also dont be fooled into thinking the ferrri will be more expensive to run than the GTR. The maintenance costs of the GTR are in fact quite eye watering if i understand it correctly.

You turn up to an event and people ask you what car you drive.

You can either say a ferrari, and you need not say any more, although people will undoubtedly ask you for more information/and or sex.

Or you could say a nissan GTR. Only men will know what you are talking about, and lets be brutally honest here, one of the main reasons for having a supercar is so you can drive natalie portman to the oscars, not drive steve the local mechanic to the queens head for a pint.

plus, you can lie in bed at night and slowly whisper to yourself: "I have a ferrari, I have a ferrari, I have a ferrari, I've accomplished my childhood dreams"

Or you could lie in bed texting steve the local mechanic about how quickly you took the roundabout on the m69 northbound and how you had a race with a porsche and won.

wink

My childhood dreams were always about Lambos. Guess I grew up at the wrong time.

F355's are sooo dated now, the interior is so Fiat and they are not particularly rapid - GTR everyday of the week for me

This changes when random people see you driving down the street though, people see a 355, at best think you're a cock, or if they know a little bit about cars they think it's an MR2 laugh

To the uneducated a GTR is just a nice but understated coupe.

I personally would take the GTR, but but I've not driven either so have no real bearing to offer an informed opinion.

Datsun for me
Ferrari as nice as it is looks dated especially compared to the newer ones.
In terms of performance the GTR is the clear winner, the technology in that car is fantastic. So as an engineering petrolhead I would have to go for the GTR. I also really like the looks.
I still think its funny the way a Nissan badge is snubbed by badge freaks, but then if these people never had that view we would all be paying far more for it.
I am however put off by the gearbox, I am a bit old fashioned in that sense.
