RE: SOTW: Alfa Romeo 145 Cloverleaf
Discussion
I'm a huge Alfa fan, having had a 156 V6 as a company car and a '98 Spider as my first private car purchase when I left that company.... either of which I'd have again in a heartbeat.
The 145 though..... I simply can't get on with the looks.... it's probably a great car, certainly not as bad as "pub wisdom" makes out, but I just couldn't own one.

the only place i would drive that alfa is to a breakers yard
Isn't that a bit risky? I mean it might break down and you'd end up starving or freezing to death on the side of the road. Much better to blend in with the sheep by owning an anonymous eurobox. My thoughts exactly.
The OH hates the looks of the 145 I have, but even she can grasp the fact that for it's purchase price, it's a cracking little car and far better in real world terms than a £10k finance deal on a 1200cc corsa.
I love these! Find one in a nice bright red or yellow with cream leather and they look gorgeous IMHO. They remind me a bit of the SZ/RZ. Nice to drive too.
But try finding one. I spent so long searching for a good example - admittedly I was quite picky on colour combinations - that I gave up and got a Porsche 924 instead.

I owned a 145 Cloverleaf which was extremely thrashable and I rarely avoided the temptation. So although on paper it isn't hugely fast in fact it was because it was always flat out! I had 2 issues: immobiliser connnection under bonnet rusted out, and one day it blew a spark plug clean out (in town, not at high revs). That made it the only car out of about 65 I've owned that stranded me twice. So it had to go. But it was fun and for the low price I paid I had no issue with its looks.
had one of these for 3 years. GREAT fun to drive.
Only time it failed was when the Bosch air con unit decided it wasnt playing ball anymore.
The engine feels bullet proof and loves to rev. The intake note under load is intoxicating.
I miss my 145 QV and I now own a GTA - think that says it all really! Fantastic Cars

Some people will never get these cars. But then that is great as it means you can pick up lovely examples for next to nothing. I've had a lot of decent fast cars, yet I will always have a soft spot for these. If you have only ever driven new school hot hatches you have no idea what you are missing out on. Steering feel like a go kart. Engines which rev and rev. Great pure fun. Great little cars.

Glendon - that is lush, exactly how my 145 used to look before I stuck speedlines on her.
Thanks- Speedlines look great!Couldn't resist- here's a shot of my first 145QV lowered 30mm on adjustable Koni's... why did I sell it??!!
unless it stands for Kühnle, Kopp & Kausch!
