Nah, its all cobblers in my book.
Look, you can get a pre registered Skoda VRS with nominal mileage for £16k.
Imagine you were offered:
Option 1 : A Golf GTI
Option 2 : A Skoda VRS plus £14,000 in cash stuffed in a tesco bag on the back seat.
In the real world, where cars are not freely lent from nice car companies and you have to pay for them, what would you choose?
Think of all the Heston meals at the Fat Duck you could buy with the extra. Or a Caterham and some change. Or a holiday with your mates to Vegas. Or a boat. Or a lot of coke and hookers.
Of course, a Golf is a little better here and a bit shinier there, but none of that really matters. Each incremental improvement in ability is costing a fortune and it just ain't worth it...
Sir, I fully respect your opinion, But you're wrong Look, you can get a pre registered Skoda VRS with nominal mileage for £16k.

Seriously, though, it's a case of different strokes, I guess - for me that marginal difference is sufficient to make the extra cost bearable. which is exactly why the VW group makes a Golf GTi and Octavia vRS

Do you have any details, we might be after one in estate form soon

Brand new UK cars supplied and delivered from UK dealers, but nice cheap prices. I've used them before and nothing but praise for them. Estate will be a bit more I expect.

I have come to the conclusion that you must be a style victim. Brand aware. You've drunk the VW marketing kool aid and you've lost perspective, fella ! Won't deny it! It's kind of like a version of Stockholm syndrome, I think...Having said that, If you ever saw my wardrobe/the contents of my house, 'brand aware' is not a term you'd likely use. 'Scruffy oik' would cover it better...

Didn't realise that the Megane and X-trail shared the same platform ?
I have no problems with people paying a lot of money for what they perceive as a "premium" product but it drives literaly like the Octavia, unsurprisingly.
The X-Trail and Koleos did, the Megane example was to illustrate the 'essentially the same' comparison used earlier. The Octavia is just like a Golf. But not a Golf. Sounds like a Golf?I have no problems with people paying a lot of money for what they perceive as a "premium" product but it drives literaly like the Octavia, unsurprisingly.
The VW marketing men have it so easy.

100% placebo. Funny what you can do with varying levels of engineered NVH.
If you're saying the VW and the Octavia have identical chassis, steering rack and dampers then you're wrong I'm afraid.Oh and possibly the wheel weights, which in my experience make the single biggest difference.
