I’ve been on pistonheads for probably 12 years or so and I must say the Jason Plato custard thread is by far my favourite of all time

In 1990, saw Bruce Grobelaar, John Barnes and a few other Liverpool players in a Liverpool branded Volkswagen Golf on the M6 near Birmingham.

I think I once saw Jeremy Clarkson driving down Marlborough high street in a mini but could've been mistaken, only caught a glance.

When I was a school lad, doing my Saturday job (gardening at a Tory grandee’s house), a Hillman Imp came up the drive, driven by Ted Heath, the PM of the time. No police support, no big car.

I saw him in Tunbridge Wells in a green Rolls-Royce with of course that number plate - When I saw him the cliché from Carol Aherne (AKA Mrs Merton) when interviewing his wife Debbie Mcgee popped into my head ...we all know it.....but for the benefit of those who might not !

"So what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels"
One of my wife’s family members used to date Paul daniels but he cheated on her with Debbie mcgee

Saw Chris Eubank in a convertible red Rolls Royce in Brighton in the mid 1990's

I can't recall if he was wearing a monocle but it was dark and cold and wondered why it was necessary to have the top down - it was almost as if he was trying to draw attention to himself - somebody (not me) shouted "you stupid wk3r ! " it didn't seem to phase him, but if it was true, why should it
I also saw him in Brighton, well Hove actually, in his modest little truck.

In the early 90s I was driving through Los Angeles when a bronze open-top Rolls went past driven by a bald bloke. Looked across and it was Telly Savalas.

Thanks, I thought so. It was a surreal trip actually, as the following day we went to a private club and found ourselves at a table next to Rob Lowe, Emilio Esteves, Charlie Sheen and Bridget Nielsen. I didn’t see what they drove though.

Nick Mason in his Ferrari 250 GTO, twice. Once outside the Gherkin in London, he was at a dinner. Second time at Goodwood, where I got to shake his hand and say hi.

Cool story etc.

Cant recall if l've mentioned before that I regularly used to see the odious Jimmy Savile poncing around Leeds in his gold Rolls Royce Corniche convertible in the 70s . How's about that then ?

On safer ground . Eddie Waring once asked me the way to Castleford as we were filling up on adjoining pumps . Me in dad's Triumph Vitesse and sheepskin jacketed Eddie in a green Jaguar Mark 2 .

Did he post on PH later offering you a hand-shaking tutorial?

I didn’t unfortunately, but some years later I did lose quite a lot of my hair in homage to the great man.

For younger readers, Telly Savalas was a bald actor who played tough New York cop “Kojak” in a TV series which was compulsive viewing in the 70s. I loved it. There certainly wasn’t a kid in the 1970s who wouldn’t have known his catch phrase ‘who loves ya, baby?’.

Thankfully not, a passing moment and brief handshake as he was getting ready to go up the hill.
No custard or dry cleaners were involved in the making of my story… smile
