Changed my mind. I would get this. I little negotiation required, but that is normal with these inthe current market

Its over 20% more than the budget, you wont get that for 30k, also a little fragile for said trip i would think.http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3219391.htm

I can address those points1. Asking price is not what they sell for. Friend of mine sold his 355 recently. Ferrari's are commonly sold well below asking.
2. No more fragile than most of the suggestions. My friend used his 355 for 8 year driving to Le Mans, the Alps, Spain etc. It broke down once due to a clutch thrust bearing. Another friends 911 breaks down more often, as does my 2007 Audi A6 etc
Personally if I could afford £30k on a car for a trip, I could push it to £36k but I really doubt you would need to pay that much. If its a problem get a Berlinetta version but for that trip, roof off is a must

1) Good ones dont, same as all high end stuff, dogs are cheap, good ones a premium, more so the more expensive/rare the car.1. Asking price is not what they sell for. Friend of mine sold his 355 recently. Ferrari's are commonly sold well below asking.

2) Your straw pole of you and your mate isnt a great indicator, but hey, we all have opinions, mine just differ to yours.
As for the budget squeezing, well, the question was set with a £30k roof, not £30k maaybe borrow another 6k from wonga.com.

We have to agree to differ on the price factor. People say you cant get money off cars, I have plenty of examples that demonstrate just the opposite. If you don't try you don't get. No doubt you would have told me there was no way I could have bought my new car on a factory order with a saving of 17%. (You would have been wrong).2) Your straw pole of you and your mate isnt a great indicator, but hey, we all have opinions, mine just differ to yours.

No example of one is a good indicator, but in reality the F355 is not known as being any more fragile than other cars offering similar performance. Its not like this trip is to the deserts of Africa or the rain forests of Peru, its exactly the sort of roads the car was made for.
As to the budget, only the OP knows what he has to spend.
Thinking outside the box (horrid cliche phrase) often brings pleasant surprises.

I am rapidly coming to that conclusion myself !
The only thing that is worrying me about a 997 is all this talk of over rev ranges, cylinder bores being scored, d chunk failures etc etc
It's all leaving me very confused
I wouldnt worry, get a decent indie inspection and go for it, the £250 on the inspection is worth it for peace of mind. The only thing that is worrying me about a 997 is all this talk of over rev ranges, cylinder bores being scored, d chunk failures etc etc

Im only in a 996 c2 but love it.
Go for a manual, sports hardback seats, sports exhaust and a none dodgy colour combo inside and out and enjoy.

Mercedes C63 AMG! Thank me when it's bought!
^^^^^if you can get one for £30k its a no brainer. blueg33 said:
In this case it was a new model that had just been launched and the most desirable of that range with 3 to 4 years until the model was replaced.
The last used car I bought I got 25% off the asking price
If you buy a new car that is struggling to sell or chose a second hand car that is overpriced, then yes, you can get money off, but its meaningless, its a freemarket economy, it is only worth what it will actually sell for. Im going to leave this point now as i dont think you will understand, but i can assure you, you could not get that money off a car i was selling, i prefer to price them keenly and cut out the dreamers. Tends to work a bit quicker. The last used car I bought I got 25% off the asking price
Back to the thread, i've expressed my opinion. 997 c2s manual with sports seats and exhaust.
