.. what car would you take?

Budget of £30k

Has to be reasonably refined for the long motorways/autoroutes

Has to be fun on the twisties

Has to be reliable

MPG not a problem

Thanks for all your suggestions thumbup

Exige/Caterham etc will be too raw on the motorways I think, the Evora is a good shout, not sure if I would get one that cheap though and the F355 was a great idea but I think I would be too worried about breaking it!

So, I think it's going to be a 997 C2S.

Spoke with the wife last night and she agreed. It's the only one that has SOME semblance of practicality with it being a two-plus-two so it has a seat for our 18 month old too! smile

Good call, but fuel cost/rage needs to be considered in the equation.

BMW M3 Convertible..8 cylinders and stonking performance, secure hardtop, reasonable-ish boot despite space taken up by hard-top, rear seats for storage too..this over a 911 purely because of the added practicality

I quite like the C63 idea, given that it doesn't sound as though a convertible is essential for the OP.

I like the idea of the XKR someone suggested earlier, but I think you might struggle getting a child seat in the back if that really is to be a consideration.

The XFR on the other hand...

That Z06 looks lovely, didnt know they had dropped so low! Left hand drive rules it out for me though.

What do you guys think to this 911?

for £30k I'd go with an M3 CSL, I sold mine a few months ago and miss it more than any other car I've sold.

but for a little more it would be a 996 GT3, with a 355 being a worth a look

Tuscan for me. For 30k you may be able to pick up a full convertible but the targa's are great as well for that kind of trip.
Wouldn't mind going myself.

Lotus evora. See forum...Nuff sed.
Great choice. Evora (or a Cayman) is the perfect balance between a fast comfy GT and a sharp sports car for the twisties.

I've done several Euro trips in my old Cayman and it was perfect.

Cars like an M6 are too big and heavy for twisty alps roads.
