The very thought of being labelled as a "CX Enthusiast" would prevent me from buying this!

Good shed in the sense it saves the hassle of having to build a shed to put your rubbish in.

I've had a couple of CXs and love them. But no car has given me more grey hairs. Appalling build quality and joke electrics although no worries with the hydraulics. I keep looking at GTi turbos every now and then but slap myself in the face and pull myself out of it. If only Toyota or Mercedes had made them.

I feel there are a few people commenting in this thread who are probably scared by anything more exciting than an Audi A3 diesel.

Love it, did double take at what looked like steering wheel mounted air vents above.

The CX is a magnificent, mad and beautiful thing - though I would prefer the earlier versions with the chrome bumpers and crazy rotating drum instruments as a 'Prestige' or 'Pallas'. The CX is probably the smoothest riding car I have travelled in.

I guess its not enough like a Golf for some... hehe

Pretty cool shed in my opinion.

Always had a soft spot for these; my dad had the huge 7 seater estate - think it was the 2.4 semi auto - when I was a kid (big family) and I remember being fascinated by the funky revolving speedo drum thingy.

They are a complex motor for the home mechanic to work on, but I vividly remember him changing the semi automatic gearbox of his on the drive – it took him weeks IIRC (and he was very handy with the spanners). I also remember him melting most of the engine electrics during a high speed ‘test run’ on the M5 in Somerset (my brother and I may have been encouraging him to go faster… I think he got an indicated 125 mph out of the damn thing!). Happy days!

Strangely, for an enormous car it had the most feeble sounding horn I can ever recall hearing… but I suppose that’s the French for you!

Wasn't the longest name something like
Citroen CX 2400 Turbo2 Safari familiale?? No wonder it had to go on the back of the (then) biggest estate in Christendom!

Ive always had a bit of a 'thing' for these, and guess one day Ill have one (bit like owning an original Mini, old Alfa Romeo etc etc) and waft along with the stereo playing "Je t'aime", the smell of Gauloiuses eminating from the creaky upholstery, flashing the (hand painted - from Halfords!) yellow headlights at lesser mortals whilst tugging on the suspension lever...

I'd REally like one of the aforementioned Safari's, but then there would be no excuse to taking my monster-in-law places, goddamit!

Terrific shed!

CX Enthusiasts would post but their straight jackets prevent them biggrin

I actually love this, brightens my day when I see someone in something like it, there used to be diversity with brands going their own way and little platform sharing between brands (though it did happen) but now moving away from premium fwd diesel stuff on steel springs is punishable by going bankrupt.

And a Citroen CX is exciting in what respect exactly...setting fire to it maybe?

When I was 17 and freshly licenses, Dad had a 2.2 'Familiale', much like this previous SOTW.

Initially I hated it's lack of sportiness, and lack of resemblance to the XR3i that the cool kids were driving. Then I transported a load of friends across the Pennines for a weeks camping in the Lakes, where the old bus proved her worth as a load transporter and had a surprisingly high fun factor with the wimminfolk. Naturally this somewhat changed my opinions. It was a sad day when the rot in the chassis rails was finally deemed 'unrepairable' by our long-suffering Citroen specialist.

My late dad had several of these, initially a glacier white (hatch) CX 2.0 (maybe carb) with sunroof, fantastic car with those awesome hubcaps. then he had a CX Safari in sky blue, again a 2.0 (possibly inject) petrol on an A-reg. I loved these cars and so did he! the speedo was fantastic and it had gear change warning LED's and a single spoke steering wheel and the radio was where your gear change arm would be. I'd love to own one of these, preferbly the 2.5 turbo hehe

Years later he bought an XM 2.1td Estate, again another massive barge but a lot of the Citroen quirkyness had been watered down by Peugeot...

One thing I remember about the CX(?) is the clop, clop, clop that comes from underneath somewhere when they drive past.

I think the term "shed" describes this perfectly....all i'd consider using it for is keeping the chickens in.
LMAO!

I can imagine one of these sitting in an idyllic farm in the south of france used as a chicken shed
