Full power brakes, suspension used by Rolls Royce under licence, steering feel controlled by speed and the smoothest ride ever,if it wasn't for the gallic rust bug I could be sorely tempted, any one remember the Safari's with Cameras on the roof following the horse racing?

You are completely right, a lot of us on here have been stung in the past and lost a bit of bottle, plus build quality seemed to improve dramatically in the late nineties so it is possible to drive interesting but reliable motors for shed money.

An interesting and diverting shed.

As I've got older, these sort of sheds do appeal - I can see young chaps hating them (and, importantly, their girlfriends too)but I think variety is the spice blah blah and you have to give it a go.

As someone mentioned, Audi A3 diesel or this? You've gotta go with the clapped-out French waft-box.

Might even pick up Laetitia Casta in it......

Yeah, they also used DS Safaris years after they went out of production.

Great shed - non - cancelling indicators, self centering steering wheel and, all of you south of the border, I am pretty sure that once the hydropneumatic suspension is lowered right down, you can't wheelclamp a CX or for that matter a BX. Funny how folks sweat it out about the suspension but the spheres are relatively cheap and it all works a treat. The electrics or rust are much more likely to get you. Has there ever been another car with such radical track difference from front to back - except maybe a DS? Thanks Riggers!

There was one for sale on eBay late last year, it was Bournemouth way, the vendor said their spouse or partner didn't like it. The rear part of the cabine seemed open and had fold down rear seats, the back part, the estate part was roofless. It was a bit like a crew cab pick up.

Really like this - there's a lovely GTI on carandclassic for £5k... Why doesn't anybody make interesting cars anymore?

Top, top shed-based work there. I've had 2x CX GTI Turbos, both white, both with extensive, wallet-draining problems that drained all emotions for the car from me. Sold them, made a profit on one!, spent a day looking broody next to an attic window to compensate for the frenchness void. hehe

And a Citroen CX is exciting in what respect exactly...setting fire to it maybe?

Wonderful marvellous car. I was offered one many moons ago a CX 25 Pallas with the cooolest green corduroy upholstery! I missed out on it through dithering to my eternal shame. Everyone should ride in one, the world is a better place for just seeing one!

Obviously not bland enough for the silver BMW boys, but who cares? At least it's sliver eh lads?

I remember getting a lift home from school one night in one of my mates dads cars. It bore more resemblance to the Millenium Falcon than to my dads Cortina!

When people call these things "quirky" or "unique" do they mean ugly?

Seriously, it looks like an amalgamation of about 6 different cars that dont actually match up.

Also, just for the fun factor - "waft" and "wafty" where I come from literally is slang for rubbish/crap etc.

(pronounce the a in waft as an a not an o)

Thought SOTW rules required tax and MOT.... at £999 and tax at buyers cost, this puts it over SOTW's famed £1k mark....

It's interesting how big Cits really DIVIDE opinion, moreso than anything else I can think of. OK perhaps the 'Mini' 'coupe'

I suppose it's cool to own a car that divides opionion... hell, makes you FEEL something, even if it's pure hate. I look at lots of cars and feel absolutely nothing, and that's a tragedy.

See C6 thread for more!!

Really? It looked pretty impressive in 1974 when it came out and hardly an amalgamation of anything.

Went along to the launch party at Bronhill Motors in Hainault with my parents at the time and got a Norev toy Renault 5 in the lucky dip. hehe & some yellow & blue CX balloons

You do tend to see advertised a lot of older cars (10+ years) on SORN now. Are people selling because the £215-260 road tax cost isn't affordable or justifiable on such cars? If so there's going to be a lot of cheap '06 onwards sheds soon (those in the £445+ tax bracket)..

Always had a soft spot for these, they have always been very individual and eccentric. The shape is still very eye catching now!

I'm not sure whether I would be brave enough to own one though!

"On the whole this is a very presentable CX which has no sunroof, engine, gearbox, suspension or electronics, which, as many CX enthusiasts will know is a major plus point."
