RE: Spotted: 911 3.2 Speedster
Discussion
Here we go, I was wrong the Speedster was produced in narrow and wide body versions as this extract from Wiki proves, I'm no anorak but possibly a clot I'm a clot!!
The 911 Speedster (option M503), a low-roof version of the Cabriolet which was evocative of the Porsche 356 Speedster of the 1950s, was produced in limited numbers (2104) between January 1989 and July 1989 as both a narrow body car and a Turbo-look, which also featured 930 brakes, wheels, suspension, and front valence. 171 narrow body examples were built, and 823 examples were built for the US market. It started as a design under Helmuth Bott in 1983 but was not manufactured until six years later. It was a two-seat convertible that featured a low swept windshield.[9]

At some point someone will add a RWB kit to one....Cannot wait to see the results...

"the Speedster was hurried to market effectively to help shift 911s in North America"
Just factually incorrect a limited run of thse cars isnt going to "help shift 911s"
Whilst not to everyones taste (I prefer the coupe over all) any such limited build vehicles are sure to appreciate as these have almost doubled in value in the last 8yrs,IMO they are just oddball enough to be nice, the n/b car looking slightly more proportioned as per most 911.
Well made rare and going up in value ticks my box!

that is a turbo bodied one, I'm not aware of a non-turbo bodied one being available but then I could be wrong (unlike the wife who is never wrong of course!!!)
IIRC all the UK cars came with the turbo (supersport) body. In Germany you could get a narrow bodied one though. griffter said:
I like these, but if that asking price is a reflection of true market value, they've about doubled in 5 years.
A turbo-bodied version was available as well (in case you wanted to put the weight back on I guess).

If you're after a rare and interesting Porsche I reckon this car ticks all the boxes....must be the wrong price though as it's been for sale for bloody ages!

Personally I think the 993 C2S/C4S is the best looking car Porsche has ever made and that one comes with a factory fitted from new RS engine! Apparently one of two ever made. I reckon a standard 4s with that mileage/condition is easily worth £40k and would probably cost £50k plus from a specialist....so maybe at a £20k odd premium it's not such a bad buy ? Although of course you could buy a 964 RS or maybe even a 993 RS for that sort of money ? Not sure what a 993 RS goes for though...

I love these cars, although in my opinion they should always be in lairy colours! They just aren't meant to be subtle.
Always wanted one of these or a flatnose, unfortunately both have clearly passed through their 'cheap' phase and are on the up.
I wonder if boxster speedsters (sorry Spyder's) will follow this trend. They can't have sold too many (at least not in RHD) and that has to help.

Bob I do believe you hit the nail on the head!! I might be biased but I reckon the look of my 911 3.2 Carerra Coupé knocks spots off the speedster........

I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about, there are much nicer 911's IMHO. These just look too hunch-backed to me, same with all 911 cab's.
Whole pre-964 911 thing for me is that curve of the roofline. Without that. it's ruined. Tha cab has a similar problem imho. Targa gets away with it, just.
Speedster looks too squat, and if it's windy as hell with the roof off because of the single door glass ahm oot.

The 'S' had a fat arse as well, too fat and couldn't back it up with any extra mumbo jumbo, looked great in the right colour but still upset the delicate shape of the standard 993 and earlier 911's. And that dealer wan king on about the quoted cars provenience is just too irritating. http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3253102.htm
