Horrible, horrible cars. No hydraulic tappets, so manual adjust - nasty job. Clutch change, twice as difficult as an XR3i. Lots of ally suspension mounts to corrode.... Much as I like Fords..... £26K AND FWD. No thanks!

The only way I'd buy that it if I found myself in some crazy Brewster's millions type scenario.

"OK, it's done just 1,914 miles from new so it doesn't even have stamp in the service book "

NO Service History, er you have to be kidding. How do you know it's not just been restored well, TBH I can't see the underneath having looked like that from the factory

NO!! a car like that you couldn't drive. so you would have it in a 'dream' garage to show off. Errrrr not much of a show off car. So as bluntly stated no.

Add says its back up for sale as the buyer didn't want to pay the price.

It was ownedby by the rs16i registrar but even they should know 26K is just way to much for one of these. Give me a lovely RS2000 with a cossie engine in it and I will keep the change for some new tyres.

Were they actually much better than an XR3i, an extra 10 bhp and always to be overshadowed by the RS Turbo.

Remember seeing one at the Banger Track for the "Spectator Time trials", where you got to take your car round, a blue one, immaculate, driven by a young lad, he (and me in my MK1 Golf GTi got beat by Morris Oxford, ok, it wasnt standard by any stretch but it was embarassing, matey had another go and did a lap to get to speed and started his flying lap, went into the first bend and understeered into the armco, car looked ruined, he got out and took a bow.

Saw one badged as an RS 1700, may have been RS1700T, anyone know anythign about these ?

Ah brings back good memories of some of the mk3s I used to see around Essex. For anyone in the area, remember the black16i? oddkid (but not actually him iirc) on the sunstrip and running some serious power. Awesome sounds with the anti lag turned on

Oh and its a Series 1 RS Turbo, not Mk1 smile

My uncle had a black one of these. He works for Ford so got a nice discount when he bought it brand new. Within a week he'd had 3 offers for over the list price from random blokes that saw him parking it up.

A few months later I was sick in the back of it on the way up to the NEC for the motor show.

That's the only time I've ever been car sick (I was 7 years old). I'm still reminded of it MANY years later... hurl

That's the still-born RWD Group B version. There's a prototype still about. 4WD mid-engined RS200 replaced it. Ford's Malcolm Wilson displayed one at a car show recently.

Lovely car but serious money!

Where are all the XR3i s when you need them. Wish I'd kept mine now - no springs, rorty engine, basic interior - felt as if it went like a rocket and went round corners like a roller skate. Hot in its day and still have misty-eyed memories of it.

Not really my thing and, as much as I understand having a penchant for something, that's silly money to be asking. Lunacy.

Would someone like to get a bit techy and tell me what the spec difference between an xr3i & Rs1600i is?

I'm guessing they were a rather limited number run in comparison.

Does nayone reall want a classic front-drive scort that much?
Can kinda see the argument for mk1 and perhaps mk2. Each to their own I suppose.

My rule of thumb (for good design), "would you have the base model"?
mk3 escort - not a chance
mk1 2 door escort - sure.

Car enthusiasts site buddy. You are in the wrong place with comments like that...

I think it is great example - but 26K is way over the top!
