The first (and arguably the best MK2 ever built IMHO) was a 1988 Limited Edition Million Commemoration 8v in Oak Green (first ever use of this colour)
Nope, Oak Green was an optional colour on mk1's in Europe. I know of one mk1 in oak green, and it's not a respray and has the original sticker with the correct paint code on.

I have recently purchased this rust free GTI 8v for £500:

I've spent a week or so and £100 cleaning it up, servicing it and fixing a few niggles and am now thoroughly enjoying driving it. Still needs a few bits sorting but you'd expect that in this price range I guess.

Always quite fancied one of these, but somehow they seem clinical and boring, compared to other 'hot' hatches....

Mattbvw, I owned J795 LDF, Oak Green 3dr GTI 16V from 2004 through to 2006. Spent a fortune on it, won Bristol Volksfest show and shine (daily driver) then stupidly sold it :-( :-(

It wa the best car I have had since, should have never sold it. It was pristine and with. 192k on the clock. The reason I found this is because I was also looking for it. From what I can see from the dvla though I think it must have gone to the Vw graveyard.

Heres my old one. It was sold to 5th Gear, driven hard by Tiff and given away as the phone in prize.

Amazing!

DVLA MOT&Tax check sadly says it's not been on the road since 2011 frown

One way to spice up a truly fabulous classic and surprise more than a few people...... Audi S3 1.8T engine + MK2 Golf GTI = 242bhp, 317lbs/ft, 1050kgs and rather a big smile.

I'm actually in love with this! redface
