i'm sure you could get the same treatment to the saloon ..might come in around 42k but still blows this into the weeds
45k! and even then there wouldn't be much profit in it for him! The 4 door has been a world wide hit.. apart from the UK!

The Type 20 is a great car but the idea of the TA340 is a modified Subaru that fully complies with the 3 year 60000 mile warranty that all uk cars get.

You also get the added benefits of Subaru UK's ETCo campaign where everything is take care of £7000 worth of added value absolutely free!

I think crossroads must be living in a different time or on a different planet to me. There is a recession on and we seem to keep getting more of the same. Take a performance rally rep family car, do some bolt-ons, bit of a remap and charge fecking silly money for it. WTF!! Do these chaps think we all have a money tree?? Maybe they think of themselves as a bit of a Litchfield. I'm still confused why they are charging so much for this package. Is the car really that good??

Litchfield have been importing scoobs for a long time now and what they used to do with them together with Powerstation, for the money they charged before the financial bubble burst, was nothing short of amazing!! IMHO well worth the asking price baring in mind what the T-25 was based on and the work that went into building and changing them.

As an aside, take a Hawkeye Spec C plus remap and minor exhaust mods and you have a car that is significantly lighter, will handle better, and be knocking on the door of 360-380bhp with little modification. Better drivers car i would hope for a lot less money than this TA340C, and better looking IMO.

I don't think there has been a better Subaru out for quite some time than the Litchfield Type 25. Much better than that monstrously overpriced 400CS, and although i haven't driven the TA340C, i've got to say, spec for spec, looks, build quality etc... I'd rather have a Type 25 any day!! If there are any around 2nd hand i bet they don't sell for much less than they were bought for. Do you think you could you say the same for this TA340C 5 years from now? Doubt it.

I've been in a few newgen scoobs and i really don't like them very much. I realise progress and time is meant to move the game on but has it. I don't think so. Maybe the electronics has moved on a bit but everything else seems to have taken several steps backwards.

Now i've got that off me chest....Where's me pipe and slippers!!

I have a 330s hatchback, fantastic car IMO, great value for a 59 plate from new for £26.5k.
Great all rounder if you live in the Highlands and want to drive in a spirited fashion in all weathers for 12mths of the year.
An M3 or a 1M Has a plusher interior (yes agreed) in which to sit on your drive for 6mths of the year praying for a gritter to turn up. I recently had a local BMW dealer advise, just not to bother with an M3 in Scotland unless I only want to use it in the 'summer'...
I routinely drive past spinning BMW's in a light frost. Most ticklish.

I also love the hatchback and wish the old saloonists would get over the whinging......
Boy is that thread boring.

Prefer the Litchfield approach and JDM spec 2.0.

In your unbiased opinion... wink

I don't think its a bad car, its just not what Subarus are meant to be for me, too fancy.

Theres two Subarus I want, either a bugeye STI or a McRae edition. cloud9
I think owning one for a few thousand miles would give you a better opinion mate, I am not biased, if it was crap I would say so, it's talents and good points grow on you in good way after some time with it, I promise

Some of the guys in my Car Club have a Classic STI (22B, P1, RB5, 555, RA, Type R etc.) for weekend/track day fun and a Newage or current model STI for day to day, that's the best way to enjoy STI's if you can afford it...

I have other cars and bikes as well (VAG diesel, knackered Chimera, Triumph Speed Triple, RD350)...I am not just a Subaru anorak, there are so many great cars and bikes out there I want and I have tried all sorts, but I just love and keep coming back to the combination of a turbo charged boxer engine and 4 wheel drive on B roads smile

@richard330s....

I'm not saying any of the newgens are a bad car, except the WRX hatch which IMHO really wasn't well thought out at all, i just personally don't like them as much as newage scoobs. Personal preference.

Equally, for the money being charged, specially for some of these newgen specials, i don't think they are special enough to warrant such premium and significantly hefty price tags and nor are they, again IMO only, a significant step forwards in terms of general all round driver appeal, technology, or quality.

I for one was really hoping they would do great things with the newgens however, i don't think that's happened yet. Perhaps the BRZ and future higher performance iterations of said car will make Subaru special again, alas it isn't doing it for me with the latest Impreza.

There's nothing to get over smile

Hmm, maybe I'm in a minority here, but I actually quite like the look of it. Purposeful and mean. Yes the interior isn't up to German standards, but it will last for ages.

Somehow reminds me of the original Audi Quattro.

Disagree....regardless you can get better treatment from Litchfields for a lot less with going for a full type20 set up

Completely agree..while the newgens are still great cars they just haven't moved the game on enough...look at equivalent performance cars and how they've grown over their 20 years cycle..Subaru rested on their laurels IMO

If you don’t buy a RWD because you are scared of the frost, then well, I dunno

Also, you mention BMW only - whereas 90% of proper performance cars are RWD – BMW M, Porsches, Ferrari, Merc AMG’s, Lotus and so on, - and now the new GT86

So are you saying in Scotland no one should ever buy any rwd car incase there is a bit of frost? Madness

Maybe you are not aware but there are such things as winter tires? And they work

Even 4WD cars - especially high performance ones with wide tires are useless in the snow etc unless they are fitted with winter rubber. A friend has an Evo XIII and it’s useless in the snow etc as he has wide summer tires on it – and doesn’t wanna pay for winter tyres so he doesn’t take it out in the snow etc.

I guess everyone in Scotland should buy under steering 4wd drive Subaru's and Audis for all year use, so they can boast for the few weeks a year [sometime few days a year] the weather is very bad their cars are ‘better’. Whereas a set of winter tires will make any RWD car nearly as useable. I know as I had snows tires on my E39 and it was unstoppable. In the bad snow 2010 I never once got stuck in my BMW and regularly passed people in fwd cars spinning all over the show.

This comment reminds me of the many posts in various forums from Audi RS3 owners saying they cant wait till the snow so they can pass 1M owners – now that IS sad wink

Plus this winter was the mildest in 20 years

I love frost. Early morning in my M3 + no traffic = sideways indulgences.

Snow tires and considerate driving means I get anywhere I need to, even Scotland. It's not like I'm driving through a field of cows or anything. Most roads are maintained quite well where I live.

I wouldn't touch a UK Impreza with a very long barge pole unless the Cadbury's pistons have been replaced by forged ones..
Uk and JDM cars have the same pistons. They use what is called a hypereutectic cast piston. It's a piston with a very high silicon content that allows for minimal expansion. They're near enough as strong as a forged item in the right conditions, but they're far more brittle, which makes them more susceptible to engine knock.

I'm sure Iain would be happy to apply the T20 package to the saloon.

Couldn't agree more. I've owned a Spec C Type-RA and a Spec C Type RA-R. Both fantastic cars, essentially a Grp N car with a tax disc. Personally, if I was going to enter Scoob ownership again and spend this sort of money, I would ask Iain to import one of the factory STI specials, like the recently released S206. Far more exclusivity.
