Also on my wish-list of places to visit, the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland, Lancs.

Local one with some surprisingly significant cars and a very knowledgeable and helpful guide...

Haven't been yet, but have heard good reports about the Atwell Wilson museum in Calne, Wilts.
They have a rare Lancia on display, I believe. smile

http://www.caistercastle.co.uk/cms/index.php - a motor museum and a castle in one, just on the edge of Great Yarmouth; a pleasant place to spend a few hours smile .

Coventry Transport Museum. Free and supposed to be very good.
I can also vouch for this. Some nice machines in there. Best thing about Coventry, which isn't saying much, but it's actually excellent.

That's my local. Seriously come along to check out the airshows people. Pick a sunny day if you can. The "Uncovered" or "Meet the Pilots" airshows are the best ones as we leave the planes in the 'crowd zone' so you can come right up and have a peek in the cockpit (betting that'll be censored) and if you're lucky get a sit in 'em. The queue to sit in the Sea Hurricane was longer than a very very long piece of string, last time we did that.

And I guarantee you will leave the airshow with a small amount of sunburn or completely drenched from rain, stinking of oil and dope. At least, I do after every airshow. They should sell that stuff like aftershave, it is a lovely smell... probably toxic.

Just around the corner - I've been a couple of times, even had our wedding car from them. Well worth a visit, nothing particularly "special" and nothing sporty really but more than enough to waste a day!

Beaten to it, took the father-in-law in there when he came to visit. It was far better than expected and nice that it's essentially a private collection. Father-in-law used to be a mechanic for Jaguar so he loved it too given all the Jags in there. Haven't been for a couple of years might have to go again soon.

Darrin sometimes takes the XJR 15 to Alford for the supercar days but is a nightmare to transport apparently as the nose is so long and low, cracking collection, they had a couple of loaned 1950's F1 Maserati's (or whatever the F1 equivalent was then) last time I was in,
