Hi all.

One of my run flat tyres is losing pressure slowly. I've had it checked for punctures and there aren't any.

I've just taken the wheel off the car to check for hairline cracks to the rim and there aren't any. I then poured some water over the edge of the rim where it meets the tyre and I noticed some bubbles coming through slowly. Therefore, it appears to have a poor seal between the wheel and tyre.

Is this a common issue on run flat tyres?

Could it be that the tyre has been previously 'run whilst flat' so to speak, damaging the tyre?

Many thanks.

Depending on the age of the car it could be corrosion causing the bead not to seal correctly. Worth taking it down to your local tyre fitters and getting them to remove the tyre and have a look and if all is ok apply some bead sealer to the rim and refit the tyre.

Prevalent on BMW alloys, it would seem. All 4 of mine did it when I bought the car.

When I had the winter tyres fitted, the tyre fitter from Event Tyres was scrupulous in cleaning the beads inside the rims. Problem sorted.

My dad has a 530d also on an '05, has the same problem. A quick bit of googling seems to indicate its a common occurance. A bit st really isn't it?!

Thanks guys.

I'll take it to the tyre fitters later.

I had the run flats changed to regular tyres on my E61 and 2 tyres decided they would leak. This was also corrosion on the rims and once cleaned the tyres sealed correctly.

That was a 2005 car as well.
