Top tip with the washing up liquid, lucky I got mine on straight first time after much fussing but it still has lots of bubbles.
I too have been tempted to put some slightly wider wheels on but it drives so sweetly with the skinny daisies on, much like my 106 was much lighter on its feet with rallye steelies.

You don't even need to soak it, just get a spray bottle with soapy water and apply liberally. Get a credit card handy for removing air bubbles, and a piece of masking tape to line it up against so you know it's straight!
Did the decals on my 106 Rallye that way and it worked brilliantly.
That is also how the professional graphics guys would put it on Did the decals on my 106 Rallye that way and it worked brilliantly.
Reading this thread has made me want a Mk1 MX5, but I don't think I could resist the urge to tweak it.
I simple number plate modification is to lower the standard UK plate. I just brought a strip of metal from a hardware shop and made to L shape brackets which attach to the underside of the bumper. Its now positioned in a similiar place to Elise number plates.
This is on a mk2.5 so I dont know how easy it will be on mk1's as the bottom lip looks smaller/it might be harder to mount. It hasnt caused any problems with airflow or grounding on mine. If you want to go back to standard the only evidence will be a few holes on the bottom of the bumper (only visible if you lay under the car).

For the number plate, how about a 'show n go' flip up number plate holder. I've fitted one to my s2000.
See photos here, user zzkamikazezz. I ordered from summit racing in the US and it cost about £60 delivered, arrived in a week.

Folded up
a few seconds later
'altec show n go' on google, there are videos on you tube. I went for the manual one as it doesn't have a motor on the back so doesnt need to be mounted quite as deeply, otherwise I would have had to bend some air con pipes slightly.

Looks like you have loads of room under the car so perhaps you could mount it there.

Be careful about waxing brand new paint Dan, let it weather for a few weeks. Good project though. I am considering buying a MX-5-Miata-Eunos in the summer. Here is my last Mazda
Great to see your RX-7, I remember the car. I was a Mazda dealer at the time and we sold a lot of the Elford Turbos. Rather than take them to Bournemouth for modification, we'd take them to TWR in Kidlington.I've just donated my RX-7 to an enthusiast who is going to restore it. It's believed to be the earliest chassis no known. Your pal in Cornwall with the ex Mazda car will probably know the new owner.
If you're interested he's posted an ongoing resto piece which you can see here :-

Dan - Agree - Soapy water to stick the plate on.
I'm lucky to have both a standard NA and a 200bhp BBR Turbo. In many ways, I'd say the standard car is more fun, but there are times when those 200 horses can be useful. I rarely use the BBR here, I use it mostly abroad on the classic rallies I'm involved with. 1st one in April around Trier near the 'Ring.
