the Gransport was a leap on from the 4200, you virtually cant compare them. i drove them back to back on road and track and they were lightyears apart
Yes, don't get me wrong; I'm sure the 4200 was a big step forward from the 3200 in terms of reliability, practicality and driveability, and I don't doubt that the Gransport was an equally big step forward from the 4200.

But as an analogy:

Which is the better car by any rational criteria; a 1972 Carrera 2.7 RS, or a 993 Carrera 4?

...and which is valued more highly?

Comical servicing proces, nobody will buy one without FMDSH.
Gorgeous looks, terrible drive. (later V12 might be lots better but same deal on fuel)

Reading this thread reminds me of all the BS/twaddle/prejudice associated with car ownership. I'm thinking of a new game called 'Maserati Bingo", y'know a bit like 'Management Speak Bingo' where if you've ticked any of the following:

"the servicing costs are astronomic"

"my Impreza/M5/GTR is quicker"

" a 911 is the sensible choice"

" it's a poor man's Ferrari"

"the mpg is ridiculous"

"the insurance quote was out of my league"

"my mate tried to fix it himself"

"you wouldn't want to take it to the supermarket"

"it's tricky in the wet"

"Italian quality"

"I'd prefer a piano black fascia"

"spare parts are hard to come by"

"they're not reliable"

then perhaps you're missing the point and that Maserati ownership is not for you...

Thanks for that constructive response...... If you re-read my post, I said "lifted", not "released" - FYI, it's perfectly possible to reduce the throttle on a turbo car and still be getting boost, with the result that it doesn't actually feel like you've lifted at all

The MC12 is brilliant, looks so much more beautiful than the Enzo, i would not care about the loss of 50hp, i'd take the MC12 over the Enzo anyday

Correct me if I'm wrong but regarding the picture in the advert showing the speedo. Its showing 3,300.0 miles. Not 33,000 miles. Something not quite right there imo!

Ok - I'll correct you, as you're wrong! There's no decimal point on the main odometer, just the trip.

I don't really buy the argument that this is the "heart" choice as opposed to the 996 being the smart choice. The 3200 really is quite a unique car which I think would probably turn out to be a much better bet in the long term. It does quite a good job of balancing practical, every day user-friendliness, comfort, style, and performance. And I think it will age quite well, whereas the poor droopy-looking 996 is destined to be the runt of the litter.

You could get an M3 as an alternative I suppose, but then you'd just end up with an old M3, whereas this car will keep making sense just because there's nothing yet made that can claim to be a direct replacement.

And what makes it stand out above all else when it comes to quick motors is: chicks like it too!!

Just don't get it in yellow because you'll quickly get sick of the hostile stares, and that colour completely nullifies the point of having a discrete and tastefully-styled car. Wait for a good one to come along and you'll have yourself something that will make you feel clever every time you drive it.

A service on a 996 costs as little as about £150. It is well-built and relatively little goes wrong with it and when it does it tends to be easily fixable. 30mpg is not unusual in a 996 whilst 15mpg is barely do-able in a 3200. COnsumables are infinitely cheaper. Everything is cheaper.
Give me a 3200 any day of the week provided times are good and I dont mind a return-trip from London to Cornwall costing £250 in petrol alone. When times are a little tighter, however, a 996 is in a different league on the running cost front.
Its pretty obvious why the 3200 is the "heart" choice.
