As the headline, our LWB 2.5tdi has failed its MOT owing to chassis corrosion, although this could be easily repaired with a few patch plate welds. I have to weigh up as to whether its time to say bye bye to the old bus. I reckon to patch up and sell its worth 400 quid as its a good reliable van.

Depends whereabout in the country you are... Scrap value could be anywhere from £100 to £250.

never weighed in a car before.

I know it sounds obvious, but what do you do? just turn up? need to be in the trade, or ID, or fill in loads of forms?

quick to do?

Turn up, tell the person in the office you want to weigh the car in, drive it on the bridge, go back to the office, fill the V5, get the money and off you go! If it's quiet, 10 minutes tops.

I received £170 for my Transit a few years back.

Don't forget to whip the tax disc out if there's any rent left on it!

Once the transaction is done, you'll be given a certificate of destruction... this is basically the death certificate for your car/van. With this, you can now send the tax disc off to the dvla for a refund, and your insurance company may also want a copy of the COD.

sounds easy enough.

i'm aware my e36 is getting on a bit now, and though going strong, you never know with old sheds.

this could well be an option smile

If its a runner stick it on Gumtree for £500 as spares or repair.

There are plenty of (genuine) people that search on there everyday for stuff like this to fix and sell on.

Diesel transits fetch more than £400.

Check Ebay but I suspect their engines fetch almost that much.

Thanks for comments. Just got a price for all the welding work to MOT standard for 256 quid + VAT. New front wing last year and only 114,000 miles on the clock backed with all MOT's. Its an automatic as well which I'm told is very unusual. Decision time.
