Great cars. Wish I had purchased one when I had the chance. But had 5 cars at the time and I think another one was pushing it a bit smile

Great cars - I've had 2

could even get 32mpg on a run at 70 (boring but effective)

25 was a usual average (short bursts to many leptons) - less than that and your into loosing license territory

Well it's my shed now and I'm very chuffed with it. It's my 3rd Impreza (I had a silver 1998 Wagon and a Litchfield Type 25 in the past).

It has a little rust around the rear arches but apart from that it's as sound as a pound. As it is not my daily driver, just a weekend toy, the economy is unimportant. The huge grin after the test drive reminded me why I love these classic Imprezas.

I like mine smile Not quite as light/nimble as an Impreza but immensely capable and a much nicer, comfier, more refined place to spend long trips.

Quite a different power delivery from the single turbo Subarus, very smooth and linear - mine is on boost about 1600rpm and holds it to 7500+, official figures say over 80% of torque available from 2000 to 6500rpm.

Fairly long legs too, took the Guinness world record for fastest production wagon in '98 at 170mph. wink

Stunning.

And pillar-less doors, what's not to like? I'm even tempted to lose my forester to get back a bit more sportyness in the shape of a scoob.

Spotted a little lady at the co-op a couple of days back in one very similar to the one in the OP.
She must have been 75+, bent over, hanging onto a walking stick. etc.

But when she left the car park yikes. A secret petrolhead bow

I think that's whats great about these cars: Accessible performance. Both from a drivers and financial perspective...

I paid £5k to go from 0-60 in 4.8 Seconds... I can't think of many other 2004 ish cars that'll do that unmodified...

Off topic, I love how the long-time users here know how to build their sentences so complete to avoid opening a can of worms hehe

Yes... Guarded, qualified and caveated... wink

But we're all Subaru converts in here, so it's ok!

I still miss mine. Prone to slight understeer but more than enough power to have lots of fun. Fantastic in the wet.

The phrase "time warp condition" is often overused but in this case, aside from the lack of roof rails and a hatchback, I'm struggling to find reasons not to go and buy this and to hell with the inevitable spousal castration.....

I can remember when there was a waiting list for these and they were going for 5k over list!

That's massively overpriced IMO! You can (and I did) get a 4 year younger PPP car for just £500 more, with only 50K miles. And there are bug eyes about for £2,500 with one owner and FSH... I know the classic shape is well, classic, but £2k-£3k is the limit really, unless it's one of the meaningful special editions.

They really are a car for all. Just remembered my old boss had one and he is a very steady no frills man and uses it for his horses.
There is also a young girl in the town that uses her for taking the kids to school and drives it very carefully.

As I said before a great car to drive and sticks like glue. But from what I remember they need to be 'wound up' to really get the fun out of them.

I've just heard of a chap that apparently has a 1996 V2 and it's been sitting on his drive for 5 years. eek

The story goes....He originally bought the car off a chap whom he met in the countryside....halfway distance!! (that's a fail right there!!)

2 weeks later the engine went pop and he wasn't happy of course. (What do you expect!!)

He had the engine rebuilt at a cost of £3500, and ran it for a year. Car made 330bhp and apparently has a sheet to prove this. (I imagine it's chipped as it has some mods and maybe why it went pop in the first place)

A year later he lost his job so couldn't afford to run the car and it's stayed on his drive ever since then....5 years ago.

Starts it and polishes it every so often, apparently he'll never ever sell it, and the car is totally immaculate.

What a feckin shame!! I asked the chap i spoke to if his mate wanted to sell it. The chap said not a chance in hell, his mate really will not sell it ever!!

If this is a true story i've been told it's clear that this car needs to be used......by me!!!!! cry

Makes me wish I was young again. I would have loved one of these when I was 18 but these days I think I'd look like some old @rsehole driving that.

Bargain for the right person though. Do it party
