I've been reading this thread since it appeared but have nothing useful to say. It does however seem to suggest that I could go on the rampage in my local Tesco car park providing I don't damage any Tesco property... ie I hope no "bored promising footballers" read this thread.

the dent it's pretty severe, an improvement on the looks of the 500 some would argue, but i would reckon it would take around 200-300
An improvement to someone who's blind perhaps.. nothing wrong with the styling of the Fiat 500!

For future reference when trying to get the number plate ID--All the taxi,s in my area have a 3-4 digit taxi registration number on the back--easier to remember.

and always remember the LAST 3 digits of a Reg if you can't remeber the lot, it's much more useful than the first 4!

How many taxi operators is there in your area? You know the colour of the car, what make it is, surely you'd know how old the car looked and you know the driver.
He'd probably operate in the same area too so you will see him again.

Did you get the name of the taxi firm.
Call the police with that detail and the time etc.
Maybe the police will chase the firm as to which driver leaving the scene it was as its criminal damage and not good for the taxi firm / police relationship.

Is hitting a car with your Tesco shopping trolly really 'leaving the scene of an accident'?

All she can really do is identify the driver and ask him to pay for the repairs...good luck with that one.

If he dented the car with his shopping trolley accidentally then there was no criminal damage.
The intent is unclear at this stage, the BiB should determine this based on the evidence.

Floosy said:
He didnt "Leave the scene of an accident" since the damage was not caused by his driving/being charge of a vehicle.
Agreed.

I would have thought it would technically be criminal damage as opposed to purely civil as it's a common law offence. confused

Either way, I'd be surprised if Tesco have any footage of the car park though they would have captures of the taxi driver.

Too busy tending to the damsel in distress is my guess.

I was a witness to a taxi driver in an Octavia do the same thing to a 206. He let go of his trolley, it went straight into the 206 and then he got into his Octavia and drove off. I got hold of his number plate, told Tesco who called the woman out to her car and gave her my details along with the registration number. A couple of weeks later I received a letter saying he was denying all knowledge and asked me to draw a picture of what happened (my 17 month old daughter draws better than I do). I never heard anything after that, but hopefully she got her car repaired.

Left from the scene of an accident, so call BiB.

Tesco will let them review footage, but not every random who asks.
There was no car accident, its simply vandalism/criminal damage. The fact that he left by car makes no difference.

As in a previous post he wasn't driving,so not a driving affence and there are signs saying that you park at your own risk,i'd be raving if it was me who had the damage, but unless there is footage and you remember anything about the taxi,ie,the company name it might be like me recently when my car was keyed its pay up time!

Get her to call the council taxi office and make a complaint as well, if he has previous issues with them you might get him suspended or struck off.

He did it on purpose.
How did she know he didn't, she can't read his mind.

Give a statement at the Nick.

I had a woman in a tescos reverse into my 911, I was filling it up behind and was knocked over.

All on cctv, she denied it and drove off.

Police called, forms filled in, police refused to get the cctv because of lack of manpower, they did pursue her and prosecute her for not naming the driver. They told me to use my insurance.

I took it a fair way up, mp etc. Got nowhere.

Long thread from a few years back on here someone, it was a farce.

I had similar except my car was damaged by his car approx £1,000 worth of damage - Police weren't interested.

I said that if they didn't act then presumably I could ram my car into all of theirs outside and similarly they wouldn't act - he said they would as it would be a deliberate act.

So I said - I believe my case was also a deliberate act - the police then persued it.

I got the money off his Co. and the Police then dropped all charges against him
