And back on topic, that Jag does look a bit nasty with all those bits stuck on. A bit 'mansory' dare I say it.

For me the Jag looks best in standard guise as a classy gentlemans GT.

At this price level what about the Maserati Grandcabrio with the new sport option ? It beats both on looks, sound, appeal, class and rarity. Now it has the latest upgrades on the gearbox it is a pleasure to drive with the paddles too. It even blips as it comes down the gears!!

I'd take the Jag for the looks, and the great soundtrack against the sterile german competition.

A bit to "barry"???? In English someone.
Never come across that expression before?

Roughly translates as a bit tacky or 'Max Power- esque':

E.g.. "Stanza's Corsa was starting to look a bit barry since he had fitted the whale tail spoiler and quad exhaust."

The Jag looks like a coy carp from the front....truely ridiculous in fact.

M6 far too clinical and teutonic.

As is any Merc for me.

For 100k I'll have a used F430 Spider and a Boxster for the missus ta!

Heart says the Jag but I'd have to extensively test drive it and all competitiors before deciding for sure.....Please..........Anyone??

Is the "Barry" factor down to colour / spec choice? Could it be specified in black with black on black for instance? That would help to lose any excess detailing which may offend.

Incidentally, do we assume this article is the first of a series?

I think the new 911 won comprehensively in last weeks Autocar test vs the R8, XKR and Evora they named it the greatest all round sports car ever made.

Still the Jag does look appealing.

As a BMW fan I think I'd go with the 6'er, I love anything with an M badge, they're always brilliant.

HOWEVER - I haven't heard ANYTHING that sounds as good as that Jag engine. It sounds so astonishingly brutal and deep that alone could talk me in to buying one.

Even at idle pootling down the street at 15 mph they sound astonishingly good. Working in central London you see many supercars regularly but the Jag engine sounds the best.

The Jag for me, though ideally I'd take the XKRS mechanicals with the standard XKR looks. It would've been a tougher decision against the previous M6, but this one seems rather diluted and a little apologetic for it's existence.

I would take the Jag without even test driving the other two purely on looks alone. I don't think the colour help it in the above pictures, something more subtle like this would be cloud9 though:

You can order the standard XKR with the 'S' seats and performance exhaust. £89k vs. £103k

I doubt you'd miss the hp difference and the suspension changes are probably only noticeable if driven back to back with an 'S'.

Must say I like the the walrus face on the XKR-S. I even liked the release powder blue colour. But the thing I love most is the sound it makes. With all the talk of forced induction messing with exhaust noises, Jag supercharging doesn't seem to do any harm at all! Would love a manual option though, with a blue lit stick that rises out of the centre console!
