.....but HAVE to have 4x4 due to where I live....
i realise where you live is a bit more, erm, likely to get bad weather than down south; but my mate said his RS4 is one of the worst cars he's ever driven in the snow, so don't get that 4x4 thing; with these cars i think it comes down to tyre choice a lot more.he runs pirelli Pzero's IIRC.
Up here you are more likely to be driving on very wet roads and the sure-footedness of 4x4 comes in very handy.
When it does snow winter tyres are your friend!

I suspect your right, torque is more relevant 90% of the time in the real world and the S4's blown V6 will be more flexible than the V8
not sure if i'm alone on this one but here goes....generally, if the car is meant to throw in a little bit of fun and excitement i like an engine which needs working to get the most out of; as long as it has sufficient poke to not NEED to have the tits revved off it like the M3/E60 M5/old RS4 etc (contrary to popular belief on this forum) then what it means is you have a car with plenty enough poke for normal driving even just taking up to 40-50% up the rev range....BUT which has so much more to offer top end when you fancy it.
the difference being that when you rarely do take it to the upper reaches of the rev range it excites and amazes you, it's almost like you're not expecting it. with the low down torque monsters (typically turbo engines) you get much more low down it almost disappoints because when you do want to explore the rev range, it doesn't seem to offer THAT much more.
again, turbo vs NA argument i know but in reality these big NA motors are far from slouches in a tall gear at any speeds. it's just i like to see it as they like to offer more when you really want to get going.
each to their own, mind

Low profile 'sports' tyres are ste in snow, that's why winter tyres exist.

i was surprised to find how poor the latest generation of sticky road tyres are (conti5) in the snow, they don't even like cold and damp ..
to be fair, PZero's are shockingly bad in anything other than bone dry warm roadsYokohamas have always been my favourite 'summer' tyre for Audi's.

FYI - I run winter tyres on my Quattro and NO 2 wheel drive car can get up my driveway in the ice. Believe me, people have tried, and all have to get towed out. (It's 1:3 at points)
It's 700 yards long, doesn't get gritted, and this is not the steepest bit:
Fitted Dunlop winter sports to the S4 this year, and short of running out of ground clearance, it's unbelievably good. It's 700 yards long, doesn't get gritted, and this is not the steepest bit:

My first Quattro Audi - worked very well in the snow - with normal spec Contis too. It's 700 yards long, doesn't get gritted, and this is not the steepest bit:

Audi RS5 weighs 1725kg
Fair enough a poverty spec RS5 weighs 1725Kg best case but its likely that real world RS5s, like the one EVO magazine tested, don't. Conclusion, the reason why the 1827kg EVO test RS5 was relatively poor in gear was because it was carrying 102kg worth of extras. Bullet proof glass maybe........ At the end of the day you're probably right. But you have to question why people are still making them? How many M5 tourings, RS4's (any vintage), RS6 avants, C63 estates etc do you see? Not many. But they still make them.
Well down my road theres one avant one saloon, there's a m3 saloon around the corner. And I see three RS6 Avants regular, black, blue and white. What I still haven't seen (other than at the dealer) is an X5M but have seen a white 6 going around. Guess depends on where you live back at my folks place there's nothing around

Does not have the impact the old RS4 had especially from the rear where you saw the flared arches, one of the best looking and nicest estates with bags of kudos.
I think audi are saving the turbo engine for the quattro when its released, who knows.
i thought the quattro had officially been canned I think audi are saving the turbo engine for the quattro when its released, who knows.
