This is far too bland for my liking - hardly the bulging, toned stance of the B7..... Too S, not enough RS.

I'm this cars ideal buyer too. I've got a Labrador, I'm in the market for a proper performance estate, I'm an Accountant for fks sake, a Senior Manager at a global consultancy firm - they are making this car for me surely......

And yet it looks are so underwhelming.....!

B7 or C63 it is for me then!

My saloon weighs 1650 - 1680. I wonder which options add 30kg?
don't know specifically, but things like electric seats add a lot (try picking one up), and it would not supprise me to find that the 20" rims are somewhat heavier (including tyres).
I am talking about B7 RS4 by the way

19" were std, the only wheel option was 18" which was resale suicide. I guess the electric recaros would weigh a fair bit more than my recaro buckets, and the sunroof mine has would add a bit, maybe 1-2kg for glass and motor over metal

OK, point still stands though, rims vary a lot, also a sunroof is way more than 1-2Kg's, more like 5-6 min, it's not just the glass, the roof structure had quite a lot added to it to maintain the shape and rigidity for the glass etc.

Having driven an S4 for the last two years, and awaiting the launch of the RS4, I can't beleive I am stuck with only an Avant option, why is there not a Saloon version, especially after the last one? My wife drives the family car so no need for an Avant, and the RS5 is too small in the back being a hatchback, and so I may have to leave Audi all together to find something to fit my needs, gutted !

the S5 is just as roomy in the back as an A4 i thought?

Having sat in the back of both, there is a big difference, although I take your point about other options, but it is very practical for me with work. I just don't understand why they would only make an Avant, does anyone know?

Maybe Audi are hoping it will push sales of S-Line packs on standard avants?

What do you mean with practical for work?

How is an rs4 saloon more practical than am m3 or c63? If anything I found the back more roomy in the M3 over the RS4....

Tradition perhaps.

Like before they might do a saloon RS4 later, or they might consider the RS5 to be the alternative. I'd pick an estate over the saloon model every time anyway but that's just personal preference.

S4 and S5 are quite different space wise, not suggesting the S5 is cramped per say, but it;s nothing like the rear room of the S4.

As for the comparison with the M3, S5 maybe (although I still think it's noticeably bigger), but no way the same space as the S4.

Back to Saloon/Avant, I am with the saloon camp, I can't quite understand why no saloon, they outsell Avants by some margin going on past models...

Engine wise, I think the supercharged V6 with 7 speed DSG is a better package than the V8 with manual, but I can 100% understand why they stuck with the V8, given the target market for this car.

Well, after years of A4 saloons, what with the growing family (including dog) my next car will probably be an Avant. Be that the new RS4 or a slightly used S6 is yet to be decided.

Thanks people all comments duly noted, but I still am frustrated with Audi.

Just the manual or did you get the car too? wink

Seriously though, is that like comparing a 318 to a M3. I drove a boggo 3-series and it was very disappointing...

OK, I'll bite....

how so (when you consider that the cooking FWD car is mechanically almost nothing like the RS4)

if it's anything like the 3 series/M3, 5 series/M5 then no, not at all. they share a similar body, that's pretty much it.

Yes but the BMWs are a bit more driver focused to start with!

this true as the normal audi / s-line cars are as exciting to drive as washing machines
