If Audi is looking for inspiration to avoid RS5 style criticisms it could do worse than use the old RS4 as a blueprint. But then, why not just buy one of them instead? Looking at the specs it's surprising how close the old car runs the new one, being just 30hp down and a tenth slower to 62mph. And there was a manual version. Good ones are still making strong money - as much as £30K - and a quick browse of the classifieds reveals a plentiful supply.

Can't disagree with this comment at all - are next generation models that much better these days?
Better dynamics, less drag than the old version.
It's got a monster four point two litre V8, an automatic gearbox and no doubt weighs almost 2 tons... how much difference can the aerodynamics make?!

It looks very subtle. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
Good in my book
Stealth = good
Plus one here.... I loved because of the fact no one can see the difference from a normal A4 2.0 TDI, except for the front bumper and grille... Is it possible to put the grill from a A4 in this RS4???

Actually looks worse than the S4 due to looking exactly the same apart from the horrid front bumper/lower grille.

The previous RS4 was one of the best looking sports saloons/estates ever made IMO, much rather have a good used one of them.

Isn't the torque (317lbs ft) a little underwhelming for such a performance model? Nice car, mind.

This is a worry

"In addition to the sport differential, another component available for Audi drive select is dynamic steering. It varies its steering ratio by nearly 100 percent depending on the speed driven and automatically countersteers slightly at the cornering limit for even more precise and stable handling."

The thought of someone buying such a powerful car but feeling the need for the steering to be done in part for them, is making me light headed.

this is a big moment for audi. the RS5 isn't that old and has already proven not to be as dynamic as the M3, could Audi's 2nd chance at making an M3-beater fail?

the german power war is officially over.

i'm also surprised, we hear news of turbo charged cars and people saying "NA is better etc etc" and now, within the first few posts we get 2 people saying it needs turbo chargers. WTF confused

rumoured....

that will be interesting, will Audi release a car where the next model will be less powerful?

well....the new M5 and E63 are less powerful than the old RS6 despite being newer (the 2 manufacturers could easily have trumped 580bhp), the M3 was made the same power as the old RS4, audi release the RS5 and RS4 will less power than the C63.

it used to be a case of whatever one released, it was the most powerful out there at that time, that's not happening these days....

To be fair, it's in estate only, so is it really a direct competitor for the M3? I thought that would be the RS5 being a coupe. (no direct competitor from Audi on the saloon front)

It does look like the power war is over, in the past, a new RS4 would have a good few more hp on it's incumbent rivals.

I take it you haven't been able to properly spec it though? Seems Satnav is still an option!

Reckon the price will start with a 6? too.

And where exactly do you / can you compare an estate car with a 2 seater in just about any way?

Strange comparison and old v new doesn't count.

I could get a new Tractor for my farm for the price of a used Gallardo. nuts

your point being? i don't think many people go "i need a car which is fast, quiet, comfortable and needs to carry 4 or 5 people in comfort as well as a weekend of luggage for us all" and comes away with a 2 seater sports car.
